Why have so called climate scientists been using extreme weather events as proof of AGW?

I find this really strange as they now say that weather events are unrelated to climate change?

The UK Met office, Climatologists and Climate Politicians make predictions about the weather such as:

1. UK can expect a 'barbecue summer' this year due to climate change

2. UK can expect 'milder and wetter winters' due to climate change

3. Snow and ice will be a rare weather event in the UK due to climate change

4. Al Gore made reference to more than 25 extreme weather events and blamed everything from hurricanes to glacier melting on Climate Change/Global Warming.

Alarmists use weather events all the time to emphasise their perceived effects of climate change therefore why do they get so upset when cold weather events are quoted back at them here?

Update:

I cant believe that Baccheus is so misguided as if to say that Climate Scientists don't predict future weather... That is all they ever did!

Here is a link to the met office report a few climate scientists work there... check out the bit about future weather predictions (Page 9)... Doh!

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climatechange/guide/do...

Update 2:

Okay just for those of you that cant read the met offices weather predictions on page 9 of the report I cited above

How our climate may change

Under a medium emissions scenario, •

the annual average temperature rise by

the end of the century is very likely to be

more than 2 °C and less than 5 °C. The

central estimate is 3.5 °C.

Temperatures are expected to rise across •

the UK with more warming in summer

than in winter. The summer average

temperature rise in the South East is very

likely to be above 2 °C and below 6.4 °C.

The central estimate is 4 °C.

The urban heat island effect already •

warms central London by more than

10 °C on some nights. Increased

urbanisation and release of waste heat

would increase this still further – on top

of the effects of global warming.

As summers become warmer and drier •

droughts are more likely, particularly in

the South East. There may also be more

intense downpours of summer rainfall,

which could lead to flash flooding......

Update 3:

Subsequently many climate scientists at the Met office have much egg on their little faces!

every bad storm since the start of this nonsense has been blamed on GW errrrrrrr climate change, every AGWer said hurricane katrina was a result of GW and it was only a category 3 storm, whereas hurricane camille in 1969 was a category 5 storm and this was just 6 years before the coming ice age declared by these same idiots, since 1990 every flood, hurricane, tornado, heatwave, wildfire, tsunami, dust storm, rain shower, and hailstorm has been blamed on manmade GW.notice how the extreme cold is all of a sudden weather and its been the coldest in 30 years or more with some records going back to the 1800's

If it particularly warmed up we could start to observe much less chilly climate at severe latitudes. that could desire to take loads of warming, probably 5-10 C or extra.the quantity of warming that we've experienced so far isn't sufficient to keep away from chilly climates from experiencing chilly climate. chilly climate would not ensue as a results of fact of world warming not taking place or as a results of fact of "international climate disruption." as a results of a mix of organic and synthetic aspects, the Earth has warmed by potential of a pair of million C over the final century, so a place which will have been waiting to anticipate -40 C might desire to now anticipate -39 C.

Because, an upward trend in those events is a clear consequence of climate change.

Heat is the fuel of weather systems, more heat, more extreme weather systems, over the long run.

Excellent report on this from the US Climate Change Program (now the US Global Change Research Program), which draws on several research centers.

"Weather and Climate Extremes in a Changing Climate"

    http://downloads.climatescience.gov/sap/sap3-3/sap...

article from NOAA about the report:

"Scientific Assessment Captures Effects of a Changing Climate on Extreme Weather Events in North America"

Here is the link to the Met office forecast that corresponds to your first statement:

    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/pressoffice/...

It says nothing about climate change or AGW, so you made that part up.

2&3 may be true (I don't know), but neither one is an example of using an extreme weather event as proof of AGW, so you made that part up too.

Al Gore is not a climate scientist, he is a politician, and he was wrong to draw direct connections between extreme events and AGW--but again he is not a climate scientist so what he said is irrelevant to your question.

Single cold weather events are proof nothing, as are single warm weather events. I've pointed that out numerous times in here. It's not any smarter when one side says it instead of the other.

EDIT: Richie, I'm beginning to think that you didn't write your own question because your additional details seem to be directed at something completely different. Here is your question:

"Why have so called climate scientists been using extreme weather events as proof of AGW?"

So, if you want to give additional details, you need to give examples of how climate scientists have used EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS as proof for AGW. All you've done is shown some forecasts--we already knew they did that.

I live in Canada and we`re having one of the coldest winters I can remember right now. Expressing any doubt about global warming because of the cold weather is regarded as ignorant, illogical, narrow-minded, etc. But the moment when we get a mild winter, the alarmists will be all over it, shoving it in our faces as ``proof`` of global warming. That people can blindly follow hypocrisy like that blows my mind. One good thing about cold weather, the GW alarmists have to shut up. (though even then, some will blame cold weather on `climate change`).

blaming global warming for weather events like hurricanes is insane because this is perfectly normal WEATHER. It`s like the alarmists never experienced a weather event before global warming. Of course the moment you point out we have NOT had many droughts, storms, etc. they will be the first to tell you `climate and weather are different things`. Strange...

Bottom line, GW believers need to think for themselves and see the madness. (though knowing some of them, `thinking for themselves` isn`t a function they`re known to accomplish well).

When it comes to climate and weather itis all a bit tricky, so here goes...

    A(larmist) thinks E(vent) but states E++

Unknown person B flies off the handle at E++ and attacks all A about E

A can then know that B is in fact D(enier) and not sC(ientist)

Meanwhile A calculates F(ob off) to incite D even more.

C analyses E from data E++ and says, well it might be G(hastly) but not E

Trouble is D thinks G is the same as E and puts C in the pan with A

Its all about mis direction see, I mean, If you hadnt read this would the vase still have broken?

Just gettin a whee bit tired of snide statements posed as questions with any meritable information being swamped

Well considering the planet has cooled now to about where it was around 1910 or so they have say something dumb to keep the peoples attention. Remember the world is now rapidly cooling off because the sun is in the lowest output condition ever recorded by science. Just a few years back they were recording how many spots were active daily at between 120 and 130 and now they are bragging that there were 30 spots during the whole month of December. But then liberalism has little to no connection with science because it is a political religion not science. So we can according to several friends who are very good solar scientists not expect any warming until the average daily number of sunspots exceeds 110.

This will restore a climate similar to that of the 1950s and maintain it. The number of sunspots currently is the lowest ever recorded and is lower even than the Maunder minimum that was the coldest part of the 400 year long little ice age that the liberals thought was god granting them salvation to rule the world. And then in 1830 the sun came alive and the world began warming up and the liberals just knew they had to take control again to return the planet to cold political and religious correctness. We conservatives that really study science are evil heathens like our spiritual leader Galileo!

They are winding their rhetoric in the wrong direction. Once the money abandons the global warming politics, they just might put it into true global climate research instead. But I wouldn't count on it. Pockets must be lined and people are just like dogs in that they worry a bone until there is nothing left.

Don't forget the hurricane coming out of the smokestack on the cover of Al Gore's movie. That's still funny, and they dodged and misdirected the whole next year, denying that they'd predicted more hurricanes, and stronger hurricanes for the forseeable future.

I'm still waiting for the extreme and destructive 2006 hurricane season. When the media starts doubting, the entire global warming scam will collapse on itself.

    What?

When people like you say "It's snowing outside, where's global warming?" is it not considered using extreme weather events as proof global warming is a hoax?
