How do you feel about this handout?
Now the federal government is giving away cell phones to people who say they are poor. There is no over site and all you have to do is call the number and say you are poor. They send you a phone with an hour prepaid.
Hey Melissa, how about the poor helping themselves? Why does my money have to go to someone that doesn't try as hard as I do?
I was born poor. I tried my best and now I'm middle poor. My family never accepted handouts and I will be damned if we start.
I don't mind helping people, I just don't think the government should be doing it with tax dollars. I don't agree with it, why should I pay for it?
Make a charity for this stuff.

My phone costs 60 dollars a month. Those welfare folks pay more for twinkies that that. If you go into most "oor" homes they all have at least two tv,s and all kinds of electronic doodads.

This is no different than it ever has been. Politicians have promised everything from a chicken in every pot, 2 cars in every garage and the internet to every home for years. The more programs made available, the more bureaucrats it takes to run them. Cost is no object, because they can always tax the rich. The problem, is who defines the rich? The terms rich and poor are comparative to who you are and how much you have. To a child in the inner city, a person earning 30K a year may be seen as rich. To a child in a refugee camp, the inner city child may seem rich. When Obama promised no new taxes on the middle class, he apparently forgot the over 250K figure that he and Biden were throwing around during his campaign. There are taxes that have been added to products that the middle class also use. So why not cell phones? If it continues, the prepaid hour will expand to 2 hours and so forth. There is no end to what this government will spend out of your pocket.

It seems it pays to be poor in the US ?
No there's nothing wrong with being poor.
Staying poor is the problem.,the lack of motivation to work
because they can suck off the teats of society
Generation after generation on welfare,
receiving taxpayer funded entitlements
mostly for not having sense enough to close their legs or use birth control.
My compassion and sympathies are worn paper thin from all the
abuse of the welfare system that I as a taxpayer fund.

I have no problem with this as long as they are citizens. Now they are giving phones to illegals trying to cross and illegally enter here. Who do you think is paying for this.
Border damage
10:00 PM PST on Monday, January 4, 2010
The Press-Enterprise
Using public resources to aid illegal behavior is an insult to taxpayers. UC San Diego cannot justify its involvement in creating a device that helps people sneak across the border safely. No publicly funded institution should be actively abetting lawbreaking.
But a team at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology at UC San Diego is developing a cell phone tool for people entering the country illegally. The Transborder Immigrant Tool will use positioning technology to show migrants crossing the harsh border deserts where they can find water, along with other information. The team plans to distribute the devices to churches and nonprofit groups on both sides of the U.S. border by next summer. The money for the project comes from the institute's research fund, including a UC grant.
This effort comes perilously close to breaking the law by itself, legal experts note. Even the UC faculty behind the project admit a real risk of criminal prosecution, but call it a matter of "civil disobedience."

What the hell do you have against the poor? do you have any idea how many TONS of electronic CRAP goes into the landfills every day?
Do you understand that poor people can't afford to have phones? Do you think it's SAFE for women and children to live in homes with no phone? What do they do if there's a fire? A burglary? A medical emergency?
So our government found a way to recycle used and repurposed cell phones which actually HELPS citizens.
God forbid.

I know plenty of welfare recipients with cell phones. IT has become a "necessity" We give them food, housing assistance, utility assistance, free school supplies, free medical care, phones, and tutoring. Have we missed anything?

Its the same old same old. Steal money from Republicans to give to the democrats. It was easier to vote for Obama than it was to go to work or find a job.
