H1N1 and flu shot while pregnant?
My Nurse suggested I get the flu and H1N1 shot since I am pregnant. I have not once had the flu or even threw up (except for one mild case of food poisoning) in my life. I know flu shots contain mercury and so forth which is kind of frightening. I asked her about it and she said , "all i can say is the CDC recommends it" I'm not sure how I feel about this so I need more input. I see the actual dr. in a week so I will probably discuss it with him but im a bit skeptical about getting shots and taking any medication, pregnant or not...
I should also mention at the moment I am just a 'housewife. ' I dont spend too much time around people except the weekly grocery store trip and weekend dates with the husband.

I've only ever had the flu once in my life and generally don't get the shot every year like some do. However, this year I chose to get both since I'm pregnant. Remember that the vaccine isn't only helping you (who could die from complications from the flu), but it will help your unborn baby too. After birth, children cannot receive the flu vaccine until they reach at least 6 months old. That leaves them with 6 months being unprotected.
I felt it was worth it for me and my son, but it is very much an individual decision. Make sure you ask your doctor ALL of your questions and understand he risks vs. benefits before coming to your decision.
Best of luck!!!

I got the H1N1 shot, but it was the one that did not carry the virus. I'm positive you will be getting the same one, since they can't put the virus in you while pregnant. I was worried about it, but do you know that a pregnant woman's immune system is not the same as a non-pregnant woman. And if you were to get the H1N1 flu it could kill you. Sorry to be so blunt, but that is what changed my mind. I got it when I was about 30 weeks and I am now 36 and everything is fine with my little boy.

My doctor reccomended me getting it and I decided not to. I did get the regular flu shot but I didn't feel comfortable getting the H1N1 becuase this is such a new vaccine and I didnt feel there was enough testing done on the effect on babies AFTER they are born. Its a personal choice. Do what you think is best for u. I just make sure I take extra percaution to stay away from sick people and I wash my hands all the time. I work in an office with older people but if I was around kids all day I might consider it.

Honestly.. I think this H1N1 crud is just overly hyped up. I'm 27 weeks and I refuse to get the shot. I don't believe it has been tested enough and I'm not going to test on my baby. "all I can say is the CDC recommends it".. yeah I don't have a lot of trust in something that is run by the government these days, so her saying that isn't enough for me to get the shot. Just discuss it with your doctor and see what he recommends. I asked my doc just to see what his take on it was, and he said that it's up to be if I want to get the shot or not. He also doesn't believe there is enough testing done on it to find out full effects on a fetus. Which I understand that there hasn't exactly been enough time for testing to be done, but I just can't turn my unborn child into a test subject.

I'm a medical assistant and work in the medical field. All vaccines contain some sort of mercury, it's a very little amount. I didn't get the flu or the swine flu shot, and so far (Crosses fingers) I have been good. The doctor will prob. tell you you should get it, just to cover their own ***.

I'm 33 weeks and I haven't got it - and decided that I'm not going to get it. If you have doubts about it, don't get it just now, just wait until you have spoken to more people and done more research into it then maybe get it at a later date if you feel your at risk of getting swine flu.

I got it when I was in my 3rd trimester (30 weeks, I think). No complications at all, my arm wasn't even sore like they told me it might be. The flu can be very dangerous during pregnancy.
