How does MySQL compare to MS Access?
I have been using Access for several years and love the flexibility and versatility it provides. Now I am being forced to switch to MySQL. I wonder if anyone else has used both programs and what your impressions are. I need to know what's good and what's bad about MySQL compared to Access. Is it a one-for-one transition?

Access is garbage compared to MySQL
MySQL is faster, its less of a resource hog, it has better built in functions, AND ITS FREE.
The ONLY Advantage Access has over MySQL is that it is a little more streamlined when integrating it into Microsoft develpment projects such as dotNet.
As for the transition... its close, but not perfect as a one for one transtion. There are some slight differences in syntax, but you shouldn't run into too many problems

SQL is a lot simpler than Access in terms of commands (SQL Language). However, Access has a very pretty graphical user interface that a lot of people find easier than relies more on entering text in forms, tables, and reports than entering in commands. There are some programs that use SQL that have GUIs, but many find it easier to use the command prompt.
