Muscle burns calories, but....?

Every one has heard muscle burns calories, but is this referring to muscle size or muscle functionality? In other words would the muscles on a body builder burn more calories, or would the muscles on a power lifter burn more calories?

It takes so many calories to maintain the muscle you already have, and it takes so many calories to add more muscle. Muscle is expensive. The ammounts of food that weight lifters eat is amazing!

whats the difference between a body builder or a power lifter? I guess a body builder prob eats very very few fats, and carbs so their muscles acutally consume protein, which is what muscle is made of. A power lifter eats more carbs for their bursts of energy for lifting competetions and work outs. so your muscles will first burn Carbs for instant energy, then fats, then protein.
