Why is the word b i t c h censored out on Yahoo Answers, but the word bastard isn't?

Is it sexism?

Update:

Wow, they wouldn't even type out the word even when I put a space in between each letter. The word I wanted to type means female dog and is also used to describe a mean woman.

Update 2:

This is the word: http://susiebright.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/...

I think that http://susiebright.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/... and bastard are equally offensive. So why is one censored out and the other isn't?

Update 3:

Good grief, they even censored out the word in the website! Here's another try:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M60cl7bKCMw

Update 4:

In a silent way: try the third link. The reason why the first two links are broken is becaus Yahoo censored the text in the URL because it had a "bad word."

Update 5:

Good idea mischief sw! I think if they are going to censor b!+ch then they ought to censor bastard, too.

Update 6:

Yeah, but if you go to a dog show, every time a female dog goes into the ring, they say she's a b!+ch and it's totally appropriate in that context.

Update 7:

Wow, they don't even censor out the word "asshole." Go figure.

Yeah, I think it's really important to avoid double standards in this kind of thing. Just leads to bad feeling, you know?

Technically, "bastard" is unisex (since both boys & girls can be born out of wedlock). I agree, it's pretty dodgy though. Along with terms for the penis/vagina used as a perjorative, it's one of those words that I'm trying to drop. Every so often an instance will slip through when I'm not watching myself, but I'm getting better.

For moments of high dudgeon, "infected rectal fistula" can be a balm to the soul. For casual everyday use I recommend "douche". This is often regarded as a misogynistic slur, but in fact a douche can be applied to any of the sub-waist apertures regardless of gender, making it flawlessly non-sexist.

Even your links were censored and therefore do not work. Hilarious!

Anyway, Yahoo! is run by people, and no one is perfect. Once you get on the censorship bandwagon, it is difficult to get off. Where do you want to draw the line? Saying "B!t(h" is bad, but "Dem0cr^t" is allowed!? "B^stard" is an older expression and has an actual, normal meaning (son born to unwed parents), as does "B!t(h". But "B!t(h" is also a verb.

    Event****y, all w**ds w**ld n**d to be cen****d.

Blame Oprah Winfrey. Apparently this is the worst word ever because it is used to "control" the behaviour of women, not merely label it. Now it is just called the B word. So we now have an F word, and N word, an S word, and a B word. And if you own a dog, there is also a W word.

I had a funny experience posting the name of a cleaning product. Well it's a cleaning product, a state of extreme cleanliness, and a racial slur against hispanic people. I meant the state of cleanliness, but I still got censored.

I think b/c the term "b!+ch" is part of the youngins common language these days--whereas bastard is used more by us ol' folks! LOL Therefore I would say it is ageist! haha

BTW, it doesn't get censored the way I write it! hehe You just have to be more creative g-f! ;)

It's feministicism worming its way into the English langauge. My spell-check won't recognize misandry as a legitimate word. It'll correct misogyny all day long though.

IDK. maybe because one has the word in the movie Glorious Bastards Glorious witch wouldn't work.... and witch is used more for mean offensive ways. not saying bastards are never used that way but witch is used more frequently.

plus it's YAHOO for crying out loud if you don't like it through a female dog!

lol that's sounds funny re reading it! LOL

a bastard actually means a child which is born with no parents, or something very similar to that.

People say 'female dog' so much more than they use the word b!+ch, but bastard is a bit less common to use as a swearword, and although they both have real meanings, b!+ch caught on a bit more than bastard

Because bastard isn't just a slang term. It used to be a word only to describe a child born out of wedlock. People should more offened by it for that reason if you ask me.

those links don't work for me. Is the word *****, i take it. lols

Yes it probably was done because of over defensiveness of women.

I once got a violation for "I find women really annoying sometimes"
