How old was your child when they had their first haircut?

Hello,

My son was born with a full head of hair, and now he's 6 months old. The hair on the top of his head comes down to his eyes, but it's still short in the back and the sides. His daddy keeps insisting on cutting it. It's definatly long enough to be cut, but isn't he too young to cut his hair?

How old was your child when you cut their hair for the first time, and what do you think about cutting a 6 month old's hair?

Update:

I should clarify, I'm only really talking about trimming his "Bangs" because they are going into his eyes. I don't want to buzz it, the hair on the side an back of his head isn't long....it looks like he's wearing a bad toupee....like donald trumps comb over, the hair is very long on the top of his head! LOL

My daughter was also born with a full head of hair, and the mop on top grew long faster than the rest of her hair. We started trimming her bangs to keep them out of her eyes when she was about 9 months old.

She got her first professional all-over trim the day before she turned 2.

If it's hanging in his eyes, he's not too young to have a trim. Save the first clippings in his baby book!

My son was around 10 months old. He has hardly ever had any hair at all (he's 15 months now and still doesn't have much), but what he does have grows in like a mullet, so we are constantly trimming the back and leaving the top to grow. As long as your son can hold his head up and relatively steady, it's OK to cut his hair. If you use clippers, the vibration may be soothing to him -- my son LOVES to have his hair cut with clippers. He holds perfectly still and closes his eyes in ecstacy while the clippers are running..... :-)

My boy's got theirs trimmed around 6 or 7 months. My girls had the hair around their face trimmed around 9 or 10 months.

They never had an actual haircut until they were about 1 1/2. Only little trims.

My son just had his first haircut 2 days ago and he is 14 months old! If it's getting in his eyes just cut it. I went to a place called Zippity Doo's and they were great. They have plenty of experience with babies. 6 months is not too young...I think its much worse for it to be in his eyes!

We stuck with our plan not to cut my son's hair till he was 2 yrs old. We got it cut the day before, it was getting way out of control.

My 2 yr old daughter's hair we haven't needed to get it cut yet. Hers we can pull back if it gets in her way
