What happens when you sleep on your stomach in late pregnancy?

Last night I kept waking up on my stomach. I don't purposefully sleep like this but for some reason it was just happening. I woke up this morning and my stomach felt a bit off and now I am having small pains in my crotch area. I also havn't felt my baby kick yet this morning. I am 28 weeks. Just wondered what the actual consequences of sleeping on your stomach are? I am feeling a bit paranoid at the moment.

I am 23 weeks pregnant, and sometimes I wake up on my belly. I have had pains when this happend thats what woke my up. I would eat something that would get the baby moving. If you dont feel him/her move at all through out the day then I would call the doc and they will tell you whats up.

I am sure everything will be fine, good luck

  • There are no consequences from sleeping on your stomach. I am 32 weeks 5 days and I often wake up to find myself on my stomach. The only sleeping position that could possibly be dangerous to the baby is sleeping flat on your back as the weight of the baby, amniotic sac and uterus can put pressure on your vena cava, which is the artery that takes and returns blood from your heart to your lower extremities. If you cut off the blood flow from this artery, you have a chance of reducing flow to your baby since this is the artery that supplies the placenta with it's blood flow.

Sleeping on your stomach is the same as wearing tight clothes. They will be far more uncomfortable for you than it is dangerous for the baby and it's not dangerous for the baby at all.

Babies will change their sleeping pattern all the time so what you could be experiencing could be this. No need to be paranoid hun :o)

Nothing will happen. There is so much between your outside belly and the baby, so sleeping on your belly will not harm the baby whatsoever. It is suppose to be uncomfortable. I am a belly sleeper and tried to sleep on my belly for as long as I could, otherwise I can't sleep, but by the time I hit 32-33 weeks I couldn't do it anymore, so it was more like half on my belly, half on the side.

nothing. sleeping on your back is dangerous because of the weight of your uterus. sleeping on your stomach isn't dangerous. they say to sleep on your stomach until you cannot do so comfortably. obviously you were comfortable. it isn't a danger it's just not comfortable. some women do their whole pregnancy. I still sleep on my stomach randomly. I spoke to a specialist and my doctor about this, both said the same thing. your baby is in this cushy pool of water you aren't hurting it any. drink something sweet and lie down, relax, baby will probably start kicking, you probably havent noticed because you've gotten yourself all stressed and worried

The issue of sleep safety during pregnancy generally focuses on optimal blood flow and nutrient supply to the placenta and the fetus. A main concern is the weight of your enlarging uterus pushing down directly on the large veins that return blood to your heart.

my doctor told me it is safe to sleep on your stomach when pregnant because they baby is well protected in there but as you get further along it may cause discomfort to the mother some woman have smaller stomachs and can stand to sleep on their stomach where other woman cant

The maximum secure thank you to sleep is on your left edge, blood circulates with the aid of all your veins the splendid way whilst your laying on your left edge. i do no longer prefer to assert that it fairly is volatile to sleep on your abdomen even with the indisputable fact that it might desire to cut back off blood circulate. in case you pile some pillows up so your no longer at as quickly as laying on your abdomen you will possibly desire to be wonderful. next time you pass to the dr. ask them what positions are secure to sleep in.

  • I always wished I had a mattress with a big dugout in the middle for my pregnant belly!
