  • No teeth in 7 month old?

My baby is 7 months and has absolutely no teeth. She also does not know how to grab a piece of food and put it in her mouth on her own. She grabs the pieces of food but just shakes them around.. never going to her mouth. I'm trying to show her she can put them in her mouth but she hasn't figured it out - so I mostly feed her by spoon or by hand. I noticed some parents are feeding babies of similar age more advanced foods like cheerios and crackers. Without teeth I am hesitant to feed these foods as she really has nothing at all to chew them with. Any other parents experience with this? For example, I was going to feed her noodles tonight but decided against it.. she mostly eats baby food or mashed up food or small pieces of food that don't necessarily have to be chewed up.

  • What education degree should I take? Highschool or elemetary?

I am planning to apply to study education at university. There is two options: studying for elementary school (grades K-7) or highschool (grades 8-12). The academic advisor told me that elementary trained teachers can be hired as both elementary teachers and highschool teachers but highschool teachers are usually only hired as highschool teachers and will likely not acheive an elementary teaching job. I live in an area where there is a lot of retired people and therefore not a lot of schoolage children and I need all the chance I can get as for getting a job - so is this true? Any teachers out there have any experience with this?

  • Problem with nightime sleeping? Breastfed baby.?

I'm not sure if there is a solution for this but I thought i'd just ask to see what some ideas are. My baby is 6.5 months - she slept well through the night in her crib during 3rd, 4th, and 5th month but just lately she no longer sleeps through the night in ther crib at all. She can manage about 45 minutes sleeping in the crib but will wake up and cry and want to breastfeed at a very rapid rate for what feels like the whole entire night. She won't open her eyes just breastfeed very quickly almost a bit painful to me. I end up sleeping beside her and let her breastfeed throughout the night because otherwise I wouldn't get any sleep - I usually just end up doing this because I am so tired. If I do manage to put her back in the crib she is awake within 30-45 minutes back wanting to do the rapid breastfeeding. I do not put her to bed hungry - she eats regularly throughout the day and has a big feed before going to bed - I also give her some cereal and banana before going to sleep. Because of so much eating overnight her diapers are so wet during the night and then she has a lot of BMs throughout the day. I am going to mention this to my la leche league leader at our monthly meeting - I am hoping this is just a stage she is going through.

  • Trouble with inlaws..... ? what to do?

My spouse got into a fight with his dad and my spouse left his parents house quickly.. I was left to clean up and carry out all the baby stuff. So while I was cleaning up - I wasn't hiding or anything like that - my spouse' father says to his friend who is sitting at the table with him : " My side of the family, it wouldn't matter to me if I saw any of them ever again." Now, this includes my daughter who was also in the room but too young to understand what this meant - but I sure understood. I said "You should not have said that infront of me - it was really hurtful". I recieved no apology and simply left the household. How do you think I should react to this?

  • Question about induction of labour?

My OB wants to induce me if I don't go into labour naturally in the coming weeks. My due date was today March 31st according to my last menstrual cycle and according to dating on my last ultrasound the due dat will be April 5th. Now, in my doctor's practice they do not like to go past 10 days past your due date .. ie. at this time they want to induce labour. The problem is my doctor was kind of iffy about whether you go by your due date with your period or your due date from the ultrasound. Which one should I go by? Ultimately it is my choice when and if I get induced - so what should I do? Doctor wants to induce April 9th which really is only 4 days past my ultrasound due date.. but more or less 10 days past my period due date!! Which do I go by?? I kind of want to continue waiting past April 9th (if thats what happens! hopefully go into labour on my own) - but then I would be going against my doctor reccomedations. The only reason for induction is going past dates.. so which date should I go by basically? last menstrual cycle or ultrasound?

  • Labour suggestions? Birth wish list ideas?

I am making a birth wish list. I want to have a natural birth. I will be in the hospital. Any ideas? Labour positions? What labour positions really work? I unfortunately will not know what doctor is going to deliver my baby so I can't talk to them about it beforehand.. any doctor who is on call will deliver the baby. It sucks but I think its too late to try to get a midwife or family physician (34 weeks pregnant).

  • What happens when you sleep on your stomach in late pregnancy?

Last night I kept waking up on my stomach. I don't purposefully sleep like this but for some reason it was just happening. I woke up this morning and my stomach felt a bit off and now I am having small pains in my crotch area. I also havn't felt my baby kick yet this morning. I am 28 weeks. Just wondered what the actual consequences of sleeping on your stomach are? I am feeling a bit paranoid at the moment.

  • Regular seasonal flu shot?

I have questions for the women who were pregnant in years prior to 2009 (prior to swine flu pandemic).. were your doctors reccomending the regular seasonal flu shot while pregnant? ie. did someone inform you that you should get it while being pregnant? or did you the thought not occur to you as no one was making a big deal about it?

Thanks in advance.

  • Has anyone ever experienced this at an ultrasound?

I had no idea that this was going to happen! I went to get my 19 week ultrasound hoping to find out the sex (and also that everything was healthy which it was .. and is the most important thing)... BUT they told me they followed a code of ethics that said they are not allowed to tell me the sex!! Can you believe that? They won't even check in that area at all because it is not medically necessary. So I could of found out the sex but they said no they would not do that for me. How weird? I didn't know that clinics did this. How unfair!

  • Have to lift heavy things for work?

I am 18 and a half weeks pregnant. I have to lift heavy bags of dog food for work and put them on a shelf.. the heaviest I have to lift is 40 Ibs.. when the delivery guy drops them off he makes me take them out of the bin. It is not obvious I am pregnant so I understand why he hasn't stepped in and taken them out himself.. I am so sick of my job constantly putting me into contact with things that are dangerous. Should I tell this delivery guy I am pregnant and ask him to lift the heavy bags out of the bin? Then I can ask one of my coworkers when they are available to put them on the shelf. What do you think? Have I already caused damage by not speaking up sooner??? I also have to help little old ladies out to the car with their bags. People are so demanding on a young healthy looking 20 something but they don't realize we might damn well be pregnant!!!!!!!!
