No teeth in 7 month old?

My baby is 7 months and has absolutely no teeth. She also does not know how to grab a piece of food and put it in her mouth on her own. She grabs the pieces of food but just shakes them around.. never going to her mouth. I'm trying to show her she can put them in her mouth but she hasn't figured it out - so I mostly feed her by spoon or by hand. I noticed some parents are feeding babies of similar age more advanced foods like cheerios and crackers. Without teeth I am hesitant to feed these foods as she really has nothing at all to chew them with. Any other parents experience with this? For example, I was going to feed her noodles tonight but decided against it.. she mostly eats baby food or mashed up food or small pieces of food that don't necessarily have to be chewed up.

If your daughter can't get food into her mouth she is not ready for crackers and cheerios. She doesn't need teeth to eat those things but she does need to be able to eat chunky soft foods well first. You will know when she is ready to start feeding herself because she will show an interest in getting food off of her tray or off of the spoon and into her mouth.

My daughter did not have any teeth until she was over 9 months. She is 10 months old now and has just started feeding herself and actually getting things into her mouth. 7 months is very young for a baby to feed themselves. Most babies are not ready for chunky foods at that point. Mine wasn't at all. If I put anything other than pureed food in her mouth she would spit it out.

There's nothing to be concerned about as far as her not having teeth yet. The longer they take to come in the better.

At 7 months she is still working on hand to mouth coordination. Again, nothing to worry about. Every baby is different. Don't feel pressured to start introducing her to foods if she's not quite ready for them. Hold of 2-4 weeks, and try then.

The cheerios (plain) should be okay... once she has the coordination. They usually melt as soon as they touch saliva, and the gums are very hard and can handle gentle chewing even without teeth. This will actually help her with teething.

Babies don't need teeth to eat most food, they can mash it up with their gums. Mine didn't get their first tooth until 8 1/2 and 9 1/2 months, but both were eating Cheerios, crackers, and other solid foods long before then. Noodles would be totally fine for your daughter.

Your baby is just fine! Every baby is different and they develop at varied rates. My daughter didn't get her first tooth until she was one and my son was 10 months old. Both of them we closer to 10 months old when they decided to feed themselves. They would pick food up, but didn't find it necessary to put in in their mouths. Yet, my daughter was incredibly advanced in a lot of other ways. And my son is pretty smart as well. My point is that unless your daughter is showing signs of health problems, or not reaching critical milestones, then there is no reason to worry unnecessarily. And don't compare your baby to other babies...each one is different.

I think your right on the money about feeding her the baby food bc of the no teeth issue. Some kids are just slower on picking up on things. All I can suggest is, keep trying to show her she can pick up the food, and put it in her mouth. Like do it yourself in front of her. Or put it in her hand, and bring it to her mouth.

Do YOU chew with your front teeth? Babies use their gums to mash their food. Feed her soft foods and let her grow up a bit. She needs to practice to learn to feed herself. If you never let her try she can't learn. She'll be fine.

i'm guessing your little princess hasn't put the bite on you yet - had she done so, you'd've discovered that her gums are VERY hard and tough. she can handle cheerios, pasta, mum-mums, farley's biscuits, fruits like apples, etc, with ease.

dont' sweat it - the best way to teach her about food is just to dump a bunch of stuff on the tray, strip her down to her diaper, and let her have at it. you haven't seen joy like a baby up to both elbows in custard!

teeth have nothing to do with their ability to eat.....my second baby self fed from the start at around 6 months old and she didn't start to get her first tooth at 9 months.
