Question about induction of labour?

My OB wants to induce me if I don't go into labour naturally in the coming weeks. My due date was today March 31st according to my last menstrual cycle and according to dating on my last ultrasound the due dat will be April 5th. Now, in my doctor's practice they do not like to go past 10 days past your due date .. ie. at this time they want to induce labour. The problem is my doctor was kind of iffy about whether you go by your due date with your period or your due date from the ultrasound. Which one should I go by? Ultimately it is my choice when and if I get induced - so what should I do? Doctor wants to induce April 9th which really is only 4 days past my ultrasound due date.. but more or less 10 days past my period due date!! Which do I go by?? I kind of want to continue waiting past April 9th (if thats what happens! hopefully go into labour on my own) - but then I would be going against my doctor reccomedations. The only reason for induction is going past dates.. so which date should I go by basically? last menstrual cycle or ultrasound?

I'd request to go by the ultrasound date as that is more accurate then going by your last menstrual period. Plus, it gives you a couple more days wiggle room to hopefully go into labor on your own!

You don't have to be induced if you don't want to. A due date is just a round about guess about when the baby should be ready to come.

I went 15 days past my due date and my little girl was 8lbs 5 oz, so it is not like she is big.

The doctor won't be mad if you don't want to be induced.

Being induced is a nasty cycle and it is something to be avoided if possible.

They give you the induction drugs, which cause strong contractions that are very painful, so they give you an epidural, which slows or stops labour so they have to up the induction drugs which cause stronger contractions and in some cases the baby goes into fetal distress.

Over 50% of inductions end in a c-section.

I am not trying to scare you but I believe every mother should know the facts before she makes a decision about her body. I am not saying c-sections are bad but they are a major surgery and it is nice if you could avoid one.

    Good Luck!!

It is your choice and you should be open and honest with your doctor, the only reason they want to induce if you are running over your due date is because the placenta can get really dry and loose all of the nourishment that has been keeping the baby healthy during this whole time, and they do not want to put the baby in danger if this happens. (My doctor told me that, and three days before my Inducement Date my daughter came naturally)♥

But I agreed with my doctor because my daughter was getting huge, and I saw an ultrasound with the placenta, and it was shriveling up, and she needed to come out soon♥

Talk to your doctor and know that they are only looking out for your best interest and the health of your unborn child♥

As long as there is no indication of fetal stress, there is no reason to induce labor. Plus, contractions are much more painful and labor is generally longer when the labor was induced. It is much better for you and for baby to let things happen naturally. It sounds like you'd prefer that anyway. So in response to your question, go by the later due date. Even then, no one can force you to get induced. The simplest way out? Just don't show up.

Old wives' tales about naturally inducing labor include walking, spicy foods, red raspberry leaf tea, and sex (the latter worked for us!).

Sounds like you're in a tough spot. Have you asked the doctor why they want to induce? Sometimes physicians want to induce for medical reasons (for you or the baby) or previous pregnancies. I would have a conversation with your doctor about that. Also, many times physicians don't like to wait more than two weeks past a due date for delivery. I would express your concerns and see if you can come to a decision that you're happy with. I wish you good luck!

My personal opinion through my experience is that do not go for induction as far as there is no harm to baby. You still have some time and there are high chances you will go into labor. By 9th get another ultrasound done and make sure baby is ok. If there are any risks then go for induction.

    Good luck

with both my children i went by the ultrasound scan dates, i was 10 days over my ultrasound date with my daughter when i was induced and i was 2 days over my ultrasound date when i had my son by c-section.

upto 10-14dys over is normal, go with what u feel best, but personally id go with the ultrasound scan.

For some human beings, actual interest. yet once you're incredibly pre-eclamptic they have you ever on bedrest. So, you are able to desire to do nipple stimulation. the different solid probability is an enema. Or, in basic terms attempt to loosen up and relax till the genuine factor happens. solid luck.
