What kind of doctor do i need to see for anxiety?
I've been having really bad anxiety for the past 2 weeks due to a death in the family. I'm 17 years old so would i see a psychiatrist or should i see my family physician first? Any help would be appreciated (:

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. Dealing with a family member's death can be overwhelming--especially if you are particulary close to them. You could see a general practioner or your family physician, but most likely they will recommend that you take some type of medication to get you through the grief.
I'm not a big fan of medication, as they can prevent you from actually dealing with the loss by masking your emotions. But of course, there is a time & place for medication.
Remember that grief is normal. However anxiety that is debilitating is not. If you find that the anxiety is interfering with your daily activities, it is time to get help.
Start with your family physician & ask them for advice. If they recommend medication, ask for alternatives before you try it. If you go with the medication route, be sure that you get therapy to accompany.
Best of Luck to you & again, I am so sorry for your loss!
