When does the IRS start accepting 2009 tax returns?
I have already done my tax returns and is just curious as to when the IRS starts accepting them.
I use my last pay stub. I work for the government, so my last pay stub is always the same thing that is on the W-2s. I can go online to any interest income needed, no problem. I won't send it in until later in the month, but I was just wondering how early the IRS accepts them.

Returns, paper or e-Filed, will not be processed until January 15. We have already prepared and e-Filed ours (as of the 8th), but it will not be processed until January 15.

The IRS will not accept e-filings until January 15, and will not begin processing 2009 returns until the same date. Be sure you have your W-2's before filing.

Jan 15th is the first day that the IRS will accept e-file returns or start processing any paper returns they may have received.

You can send them in now, but I really don't see how you could be finished already. You don't have any W2s, or other forms showing income from interest, investments, gambling, etc.?
