Newcastle upon Tyne area- Exiled Geordie, I want to come back?

I left Geordieland in 1976 in search of work.(nae jobs aboot then) I am now able to consider semi-retirement and I want to come back to Whitley Bay/Cullercoats/Tynemouth.

The problem I have is that I have acquired a superb wife but she is a non-charva Essex girl. She is keen to move to Tyneside because of the cultural life (we like Classical music, the Arts and Learning in general) For myself I like a few pints of Ex or Workie Ticket and a good game of dominoes down the pub (Ship Inn Monkseaton was my local).

Will Tyneside have me back, and accept my Southern wife as well. We are cultire-vultures, but not snobs, like Thelma was in "Whatever happened to the Likely Lads" My wife is a very canny lass, but Southern through and through.

Of course you'll be welcome back.

Not sure when the last to you would have visited, but I imagine things have changed dramatically since the 1970's. The population is much more diverse than it used to be (southerners, foreigners, anyone you can imagine) and most people seem to settle down fine.

We have the Baltic to cater for your wife's art needs and the Sage for all types of classical music. There really are few better venues around for either. As for yourself, I know Workie Ticket is still on the go too.

Tynemouth, Cullercoats and Whitley Bay are all considered to be pretty decent area's. Not sure what they were like in the Seventies as I'm an Eighties child, but in general, the whole of Newcastle is on the up and up.

You could do much worse than settle down back up here and the welcome will always be a warm one.

Longbenton - not very advantageous except you like bowling. Killingworth - not undesirable, not super. there isn't very plenty there. Gosforth - Yep. advantageous section. you're in basic terms a stones throw from the two Newcastle and the nation-state. Whitley Bay & North Shields - the two friendly factors with first rate nightlife and stable get admission to to Newcastle yet they seem to be slightly extra out. South Shields & Shiremoor - not so undesirable. i does not stay there for my area using fact the two factors are as boring as dishwater. If i become you, i could decide for Gosforth. that's a competent mix of the failings which you're searching for. that's a sparkling and risk-free place. whether you obtain thoroughly caught in the centre of Newcastle, you should walk domicile in 20 minutes. transport is outstanding. you're on the area of Jesmond Dene and in the different course, you have Northumberland and then Scotland. 2d determination could be Whitley Bay or North Shields. they're the two as advantageous as Gosforth, yet not so stable in terms of commuting to Newcastle.
