I'm planning a trip to thailand, anything I need to know? and i have a few questions.. read on>?
Anything you can tell me will be a great help, however i would like to know some basics::::
- is there any customs, eg: things i can and cant do?
- can you give me an example of what things cost, such as a meal, a room, just basic needs so i can work out how much money i will need.
- i know its not the safest country, but at the moment i wll be travelling alone unless i find a travel partner, is there anywhere or anything i should avoid or look out for?
anything you can help me would be great.. im a 24 year old Australian if that makes a difference at all lol
thank you in advance

Thailand is actually a pretty safe place for tourists despite some of the stuff you find on the internet. The short answer is that you would want to use the same common sense you would use in your own country to avoid trouble. Don't get drunk and start a fight, etc...
-Hard to give specifics on rooms because the costs will vary on what kind of room you want to stay in (luxury vs. basic). You might find that a room can cost as little as 600baht/night at a guesthouse/cheap hotel or well over 8000 baht for a luxurious resort). Room costs will also vary based on season (high versus low) & where you are in the country.
Food:
If you like Thai food, you can find meals for as little as 30-40 baht on the street & in some Thai restaurants.
A general range at a restaurant will probably be 50-180 baht per item ordered.
Local markets can be a good place to get good food cheaply (fruit, for example).
"- is there any customs, eg: things i can and cant do?"
Don't touch a person on the head.
Don't use your feet to point at anyone.
Don't point your feet in the direction of religious objects.
Don't criticize the Royal Family (probably best not to even bring the subject up).
Might be easier to give a few pointers if I knew exactly where you planned on travelling to in Thailand....

You are a 24 year old Aussie with the name Party Boy.
Well I will give you a choice of 2 places for you to go .
Phuket - Over priced, over crowded, over rated and mainly full of Australian family tourists or Couples
or
Pattaya - The Party Capital of Asia .
As for Thailand not being safe - it's much safer than the UK.
To give you an idea of how much you will need.
Decent Budget Hotel 500-800 Baht a night
Food and drink - 500 Baht a day but can be as little as 150 baht if you like Thai food.
A good night out - 2000 Baht
Try the following for accomadation
