Broadband download usage limits?

I had my broadband provided by Tiscali, who have recently been bought by TalkTalk, who have recently sent me a letter saying that my package will be transferred to their "standard" package.

The difference between my current package and the one offered is fairly simple, but this is also where it gets complicated.

TalkTalk have a monthly download limit of 40GB, so to find out whether it's worth my while going with the upgrade I requested information about my monthly usage. They stated that they no longer keep that information on record as it is a very complicated system!

Can they set a limit if they can't advise their customers how much has been used in any particular time? Is there any software that I can use to find out how much I use during a session? Can I use anything within Vista to monitor my usage as there was with XP?

Call Tiscali back and start by talking to a high speed rep. If they cant get your answer ask for a supervisor. I work for a telecommunications company and we have a program that will break it down by hour, day, week, and month in about 30 seconds after entering the account. I think you got a rep who hasnt been there long or doesnt know their job.

  • Ok they are telling you that u have a monthly usage limit, but no way for them to track your average useage. Seriously, if they are tracking your usage for a month they can see what your average has been. It sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one over on ya. If they wont give you the answers then i would definitely look into a different broadband provider.

They do still keep your usage on record they blagged you! Why do you think people still get letters telling them they are downloading too much?

Try this you can even set an alarm to go off after reaching a certain amount of downloaded data.

in case you have a bandwidth quota/cut back then particular all internet interest counts in the direction of your cut back. as an occasion, in case you have 5 GB of bandwidth obtainable according to month, it is not correct no count number if it is 5 GB of Youtube video clips, 5 GB of emails, 5 GB of Google photographs, 5 GB of interest archives or 5 GB of interest documents, it is going to nonetheless deplete your quota.
