Are the oceans starting to become saturated with CO2?
A recent study published in Nature finds "ocean uptake of anthropogenic CO2 has increased sharply since the 1950s, with a small decline in the rate of increase in the last few decades."
If you examine their Figure 2, you can see the anthropogenic CO2 uptake increasing rapidly along with the atmospheric CO2 rise, but around 2000 the uptake began to slow.

Do you think this may indicate the oceans are starting to become saturated with CO2?

Yes indeed, it has been known for a few years now that the ocean carbon sink has begun to fail. http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/sci...
It goes along with the warnings of this article that I'm sure you remember a couple of weeks ago http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/12/09123...

Inevitably the day will come when the ocean can't absorb and then the amount of atmospheric CO2 will increase. I'm not convinced this is the day. There was a study out recently showing the fraction of CO2 from burning absorbed by the air compared to the total amount released has stayed constant. Perhaps this is now changing but I'll suspend judgment until there's more data.

yes, i had already heard worrying stuff about this, it's very scary thought. i'm wading through the method right now.
but just in the introduction there is a different shock;
"Our results also suggest that the terrestrial biosphere was a source of CO2 until
the 1940s, subsequently turning into a sink. Taken over the entire
industrial period, and accounting for uncertainties, we estimate
that the terrestrial biosphere has been anywhere from neutral to a
net source ofCO2, contributing up to half as muchCO2 as has been
taken up by the ocean over the same period."
wtf???? well, maybe this is good news. i'll keep at it but i think this needs 2 reads through and a rest to absorb it all. thanks for the heads up.

Part of a complex interplay:
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/summary/sci;...
The recent paper from Bristol,
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/200%E2%80%A6
that Gwen mentions would indicate that the saturation has not yet begun, but I think other studies disagree. In any case, as a matter of simple physical chemistry the saturation will increase, and warming will increase it further. That last is one of the dreaded positive feedback factors.

The oceans are filling with CO2 but it's natural and they are far from saturated. When they are saturated the oceans will be filled with algae. At that point the algae will die and sink to the bottom and take the CO2 with it. I'm more concerned about all the plastic in the oceans and landfills.

Why do try to argue Science to deniers?
You must a sucker for punishment. lol!
I can't believe the depths of ignorance you've stirred up !
"Fish exhale CO2" lol !
Is that why there are so many bubbles? lol !

we live on a living spec of the smallest dust spinning around the hugest ball of extreme plasma "sun" ..which is a very small spec of a glowing dust spinning around a unknown super massive force field so strong it deflects time and light..which is a small swirling glowing dust "galaxy" of millions of multiple varietys of dust "suns" within dust "planets" which is spinning around in a timeless infinity realm of creation of love light and all that is"everything yet nothing"...which is all in our mind the exact pattern of the course universe expansion and they say we don't use all our brain..lol
now we are worried about our lil spec of dust "planet"..silly humans!!!
ahh i'd just sitback empty yourself and leave the universe alone trust me a zillion humans could never change what as already happened we are seeing the past.

Fish exhale Co2, Global warming was already deemed to be bogus. Google "Climate Gate" and you will get your answer.
