try calibrating it. Charge it up and then run it down all of the way. Charge it back up, unplug it and let it cool, and run it down again. Do that a couple of times. It takes a little while to do but I've gotten over 3 hours out of my ASUS that was only supposed to get 2.5. It's a start.

i used to have a toshiba, its just gonna get worse. But when they say it lasts about 2.5 hours or whatever, they mean at the lowest setting, like if its on but completely dimmed and just sitting there. They try to maximize the results to make the better seem better than it is. You could try to buy a special battery for a longer life, but it will probably set you back a few hundred, and toshibas are cheap, so its stupid to buy a battery that costs like a a quarter or a third of the price. I'd say go for a different computer.

Buy a 12-cell battery. It probably doesn't last long because your screen is probably trubrite. If so then your screen still uses up a lot of power even with the brightness turned down. It is also your graphics card and cpu and what kinds of programs you run.
12-cell batteries will double your average time. So you'll get 2 or 3 hours tops with a 12-cell. They cost are 50 -100 dollars.

The average battery life of a laptop is 1-2 hours. Usually the battery runs much quicker because of high graphic settings.
You can alter performance settings to save battery life but having a battery life of 1-2 hours is normal for a laptop.

The calculation of 2.5 hours is based on it not being used at least half of the time so that it can go to sleep to conserve power. Same old marketing gimmick, the battery life is only if you don't use it.
Lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries are particularly troublesome. They actually permanently lose capacity whether they are being used or not. The rate of this capacity loss is fastest when they are fully charged or fully discharged and when they are hot. Lithium batteries are stored refrigerated or in cool locations and at half charge in order to maximize their shelf life which is why they always have half a charge when you buy them. You'll prolong the life of your battery by not overcharging them and by keeping them cool. In general, factor in buying additional batteries packs and perhaps an external battery pack for your laptop.

turning your power options down to power saver will help. Not gonna get no 7 hrs not even with a new battery. About 2 hrs tops with most labtops. You could purchase a new battery and when 1 runs out plug other battery in and there you go. Good luck!

They say that it lasts 2.5 but it only lasts one hour because when they test these things they turn off wireless and get it on lowest brightness,I know because apple is not exactly squeaky clean either because my battery only lasts 6 hours instead of 8
