Have you ever instructed or used a barrister in civil proceedings?

I'm interested in what you thought of the service and advice he/she provided? Please note:

1. Not in criminal cases

2. Comment such as 'all lawyers are bast*rds' are very witty of course, but not welcome.

3. Your experiences are what I'm interested in. Not your mates or that bloke off the telly.

yes actually. I wrote a leaflet for a council. When it came to payment they were not happy with some aspect of the work and refused to pay the full amount. I sought legal advice from a friend of a friend who signed me up for part legal aid (I had to pay a percentage). When the barristers opinion came it said that because of the lack of detail in the original contract I couldn't prove my case and should take what I was offered. I felt ripped off all round particulaly by the friend of a friend who must have known I did not have much of a case but who got paid at my expense when I could least afford it. So yes all lawyers are.............and bigger rip off merchants than bankers.

NB I do enjoy reading your answers to questions so please don't take my response personally
