So what did Origen mean when he wrote? Is it the Christ within us as Paul stated?

"The word can also be "the Son" because he announces the secrets of the Father, who is the "Mind" (Nous) analogous to the Son who is called "Word" (Logos). For as the Word (Logos=Reason) in us is the messenger of what the mind perceives, so the Word of God. since he has known the Father, reveals the Father whom he has known. because no creature can come into contact with him without a guide". (Origen, Commentary on John 1.278)

Oh that rascally old sage, he managed to get himself into some troubles.

He knew that the word (logos) could only come from the Father, but what was the Father, what exists before the word?

The Spirit of Christ is within us, or the Holy Ghost. Christ can't because he has a body of flesh and bone, resurrected and perfect. Actually y we have to choose to have that Spirit, we can easily reject it by the way we live our life.
