Depends on the context.
All the ______ Anonymous meetings, sometimes referred to as XA, are 12 step meetings.
There are various types of AA meetings, speaker meetings, topic meetings, beginners meetings, Big Book meetings, and others. If an AA meeting is described as a 12 step or step meeting in the local "where & when" booklet, it means that at each meeting, part of the "12 Steps and 12 Traditions" book is read and discussed.
"Step Meetings: One person will present a 10 or 15-minute discussion about one of the twelve steps and then will invite other members to share their experiences about working on the particular step. Not unlike the discussion meetings, sharing that consists of personal experience and an application of the referenced text is seen as more important than theoretical or impersonal discussions during step meetings."

These meetings provide a rigid framework that members are expected to tailor their stories so that they might fit within that framework. It is all about conformity rather than finding answers to any specific problems one might have.
All of AA is faith based, some are more strict in their approach and in what may be discussed. Some, like the "Back to Basics" crowd and the Pacific Group, believe that AA has strayed from AA's original teachings and present a fundamentalist-type AA. "If it's not in the Big Book, it ain't AA."

There are no "other" AA meetings. AA meetings are AA meetings. There are various AA meetings like: open, closed, speaker, participation, H&I etc. There ARE, however lots of 12 step meetings available for people with "other" issues...like: SA (sex anonymous), GA (gambling anonymous), CA (cocaine anonymous), NA (narcotics anonymous), OEA (over eaters anonymous), and the list goes on, and on......YES! 12 steps ARE faith based! However, that faith is based on the choice of the person in attendance of them.
