can an electric starter on a snow thrower burn out a GFI outlet after a few tries?

I used the electric starter on my snowthrower while plugged into an outdoor GFI outlet in my garage about 10 times before it stopped working. Now, nothing plugged into the outlet gets a charge, even after resetting the corresponding circuit breaker. My garage was probably close to 32 degrees at the time I was using the snowthrower, so could the starter wire shorten out the outlet when near/at freezing temperatures?

Update:

The outlet does not have a reset button, the only indication that it is a GFCI outlet is the generic label on the outlet. I cut the circuit power and was able to un-seat the AC outlet...there are 2 wires that appear to be properly secured by the set screws. For the heck of it, I tightened the set screws down more securely than before, making sure the wires were still touching the metal directly around the set screws. Cut the power back on, still no current comes from the outlet.. I am thinking it may be a bad outlet? all the other fixtures on the same circuit work fine.

You need to find and reset the GFCI receptical that hast the test/reset buttons, if it isn't a GFCI circuit breaker.

at 32 degrees the weather wouldn't have an effect on your GFCI outlet nor wire. Either the outlet was installed incorrectly or you knocked a wire loose somehow. If you can do electric work yourself, then turn off the breaker and check the wiring. If not then you might be needing to see an electrician.

this will be a silly question-- does the GFI receptacle have a test and rest button in the middle-- if yes then push the reset button in and see what happens---without the starter plugged in-- in plug works plug in starter if it pops then there is ground problem in the extension cord you are using or the starter itself--good luck--
