Can putting Bar's Stop Leak (the one that s says it CAN mix with Antifreeze) in Hurt if everything is OK?

I am -baffled- by the "Burning Coolant" and Car runnign FINE in my 1991 Olds Calais 2.5L "Iron Duke" Tech4. So, while it was hot, i added 1/2 a bottle of BAR's Radiator Stop Leak, ran the car 5 minutes, let it get its hot cap off again (I removed it,) Then added the other half.

Will this help cure my "Burning Coolant" Problem? I DONT have Blown head Gasket, not sure how the Coolant can "Burn"..

And what should i do AFTER this? Level is Fine now, i heard Air coming back to the tank, i think this is Normal to "Self Bleed" and "Self Pressurize" itslef, it is NOT overfull now, its cooling and has the BARS in it Overnight, It didnt go anywhere..

Thanks!

Update:

ITS NOT BURNING ANTIFREEZE Thats why i know MY HEAD GASKET IS OK.

Update 2:

lab i Messaged u

Update 3:

don r: Thanks!

Worn out water pumps will leak coolant through their shaft seal. That's hard to see when you look everywhere but there. There's a weephole on the underside of the pump shaft housing. Check that.Any moisture there means it is leaking and needs to be replaced. Barrs Leaks may plug this for a few days and then it'll start up leaking worse. I could be wrong. There could be a leaky hose or heater core leak. Don't forget toexamine the oil filler cap to make sure the coolant isn't escaping into the crankcase- you'll see emulsion accumulate on the cap and maybe in the radiator as well.

It is damaged, the antifreeze is mixing with the oil, that means you've got a blown head gasket. If the gasket fails, a variety of problems can occur, from compression loss (leading to power reduction, or a rough engine), to exhaust gases being forced into the cooling system, leading to the engine overheating and increased engine wear due to the motor oil being mixed with antifreeze. Coolant can leak into the cylinders, causing the exhaust to issue steam and the catalytic converter to be damaged. If a very large amount of coolant does this, hydrolock can occur, causing extensive engine damage. Sometimes, all that may happen when a head gasket is blown is excessive steam erupting from the tailpipe; yet the engine may act and drive like normal, until all the coolant is gone and the engine overheats. I'd change the oil, change the antifreeze and trade that thing today.

Bars stop leak might slow down a head gasket failure for a short time, but it is no fix. The coolant is not "burnt" it just leaks into the cylinder and is evaporated. If two much enters the cylinder, it could cause 'hydro-lock' which will bend or brake a connecting rod as well as other serious damage to the engine. You usually have some warning signs of this happening like excessive white smoke from the tail pipe.

It depends on how big the leak is. Bars is fine for pinhole leaks that need coolant added once a week or so, but it won't help large leaks much. People blame it for ruining their cooling systems because they use it to try to fix a rotten system, and blame the Bars when the system quits altogether.

You'll just have to drive it for a while and see if it helps.

You seem to be inventing reasons to dump radiator and heater core plugging stop leak into your cooling system for no reason at all. Ordinary stop leak products will not deal, fix or repair a blown head-gasket.The term burning coolant means loss of coolant into the combustion chambers as the motor runs do to a leaking head gasket. Are you loosing coolant? Do you know where it is going? To answer the last to questions is the reason mechanics and new car dealerships do inexpensive cooling system pressure tests.

Slow down about 100 mph. and do some reading on cooling systems before you royally scew something up. You're still totally confused how your cooling system and coolant reservoir works from the time its cold right up to 195 degrees and back to cold again.

Yes, it can stop up the entire cooling system, plus it's only a temporary fix. You will have to add more every few days to keep it sealed.

I put some in an S-10 once. Within 6 months, had to replace the entire cooling system. Cost me $1600.00 for what would have been a $300.00 repair.

It's best just to fix it right the first time.

If your car is burning Anti-freeze it has to be going someplace. I don't know how you can be sure that you don't have a blown head gasket. These cars can burn coolant of the intake manifold gasket is bad also. That is something else you might want to check.
