In your own words, what is LOVE to you?

This is the Ideal Love. Most of what we practice on earth is not love so much as possessiveness.

We speak of" my husband" or "my children". It is usually my something. Selfless devotion

to others, with out a need for control, certainly approaches the ideal love.

99% of what people think of as love is Hollywood BS designed to enslave women to a marriage system that treats them as PROPERTY and devalues their contribution and their place in society.

To me love is what I feel towards a person, not what they feel towards me. Love is a sense of value, understanding and importance attached to a person (it helps if we remember that we never really know anyone, so I don't get caught up in valuing the "love" and not the person.) To love and respect someone means to try and help them be what and where they want to be, even if that is away from me.

Once you start talking about the love others feel for me as love, you get hung up in expectations, and we cannot control or define the actions of others. It is like hearing the scratching of an animal in an enclosed box and assuming it is a lion. Assumptions about the love of others is bound to get into ego gratification and issues of self-importance, which denude it of all generous content.

Love to be generous, and sincere is an inside job and is not in the business of reciprocation.

The lovey-dovey junk that goes on in here makes me crazy because it is all an ego game or baiting the hook for more women to give up their humanity to a stupid game. Love that needs to be broadcast in Yahoo is not love it is egotism.

I hope "Sally loves Harry" and her ilk read this. They don't seem to get my anger and think I am just a killjoy.

I believer that love is the substance of the creation, it is the unseen energy and awareness from which the creation rises. In short, Love is God. It is not a feeling or a state of mind but a state of being, the unseen power that flows in and through all beings and things. When we tap into it we feel it flow through us into all the world. We recognize that love is the bond that unites us. From our limited mortal state of being we only get little hints of that universal love and tasting its sweetness, we try to grasp it, get it for ourselves, even steal it from others because we do not understand that the love we seek is a state of being found within our own selves, the God within us. But when, through spiritual effort and meditation we connect with that inner self and realize Love is God's image and nature within us, we are free to let that love flow out from us to all with no fear of losing it. Or something like that...

Love, is the hope that someone may find a better life, either in this or the next. It is also the willingness to sacrifice something of oneself to help them achieve this.

Love is a feeling that you feel to someone you trust more than anyone you do not love. Love is not sex, but you can do it to people you love and no one else. If someone is ever in love, then divorce would actually sound impossible to deal with to that person.

Love is just like any other feeling. It fades away through time, if you don't work for it. Example if you are angry at someone, if that someone is away for along period of time and you are not thinking of them, the anger will fade away. Unless you keep thinking of them and thinking of the anger for them, then the anger wont fade away.

God is love,and love is the most powerful force in the universe.

God is love. Know that God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end -- time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God's Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God's blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can't explain the world's natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner's prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus' name, amen." I'm Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could check out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group as a good way to learn about God's will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.
