Senior citizen former hippies: what did you do to live all naturally as a hippie back in the day?
I want to live all naturally, too. I'll need some advice/ideas from true hippies who have lived the life! and what do i do in regards to period blood? thanks :-)

Being a Hippy was a mind set about interacting with the world & people around you from a heart of love. So every one had their own way of living this.
My experience is based on those people I was attracted to hang around with & their attractions to me for whom I was. That meant hanging around with different people. People who agreed to disagree. People who accepted everyone no matter what their abilities.
So here's a glimpse at my daily life as a Hippy. #1-Responsibilities came 1st. No matter whose "pad" you crashed at, every one awoke and participated in cleaning up the house. There could be 30 people in some beach bungalow (more than 1/2 of them strangers to each other) & we all woke up asking others what we could do to help in the clean up. People pooled money together for breakfast food. Those who didn't have money would offer to make the trip to the store & others would offer to do the cooking.
We hitch-hiked for most transportation (unwise these days), but it was the 1st form of "car pooling."
You could strike up a conversation with anyone.
There were many disabled Viet Nam veterans. They were always invited in to party. And every one pitched in to help empty urine collection bag or clean their colostomy bags so that they could stay & enjoy themselves. Wheel chairs couldn't make it to the beach & bon fires so strong folks would take turns carrying the disabled over the sand dunes.
Every one was included.
There was much mind altering going on, but people had each others back. A kind of "checks & balances."
Women wore regular feminine protection, but if we were out of products, in a pinch, no one was scared to ask others if there were any old clothing that we could rip up into rags & then wad them up to hold in place, keeping legs firmly together. (If a woman didn't wear panties to hold them.)
No one was grossed about by natural bodily functions. We knew about cleanliness & did the best we could.
People think of Hippies as dirty. Not the ones I roamed with. Water & soap were always kept. That was an attraction how clean smelling a person was. Cleaning homes & bodies were always the priority. Partying came AFTER necessities were attended to.
Every one watched out for all the children. It wasn't just a woman's job. And they all liked it when it was their turn to entertain the kids. Parties lasted well into the mornings, but kids were put to bed at beginning at 8:PM & then there was always the least "high" person who would keep making checks on them as they slept.
Food was raw veggies cooked and mashed up for the kids that were weaning from breast feeding. Very little bottle feeding since that required too much sanitization.
You could go anywhere & not pack up supplies because where ever you went, people shared their clothing, food, and what ever they had. There was little attachments to physical belongings.
Your basic communal mindset of helping each other in any way you could to help them feel welcomed & loved. That's all I can think of this time.

Ugh, lived it, wouldn't go back to it. How about you just "go green" instead of hippie? Lots of stuff online about going green, and some things are about the same as hippie style life. As for the last question, beg money on the street to go buy some stuff at drugstore--we didn't use leaves or anything. Good luck. :-)

The closest hippys came to living naturally was smoke home grown. Haute Ashbury isn't farm land and very few that went to communes lasted long. You have a wrong vision of the hippy. Kid.

Stay away from the counter culture. You will live a longer and healthier life.
Those who did not engage in the hippie lifestyle have our hearing by not listening to loud music.
We have very few health problems by not taking illicit drugs.
And our conscience is clearer by not having multiple sex partners.Free love was nothing but lust.
The best free love we had was from our parents and siblings.

So go ahead and do it,
live au natural (or un-natural for that matter)
Live your life, get your own stories. It doesn't have to be the 60's to participate with the people and life on this planet.

Just Google ' hippie communes of the 60's ' and you will get all sorts of interesting facts about that period of our history.
I did not participate myself, as I was far too shy to share every part of my being with anyone....let alone a small community.
