Calculate the amount of energy released each year by radioactive decay in Earth's crust...?
A. Know that 1 gram of crustal rock releases 300 ergs of heat each year and there are 2.7 * 10^25 g of rock in the crust.
(I just did 2.7 * 10^25 * 300 ergs to get 8.1 * 10^27...is that right?)
B. The radioactive heat released each year from the crust is equal to the energy released by how many 1 Mton nuclear bombs? Use the answer in part a and know 1 Mton bomb releases 4 * 10^22 ergs of energy.
For this don't you just divide 4 * 10^22 by whatever the answer to A is? It's been a long time since I've had to do math, let me know what you think!
