To those of you who love traveling , what inspired you to explore the world?
To me it was Authors such as Graham Greene, Geoffrey Moorhouse, Christina Dodwell and Paul Theroux . From my young days i loved reading their travel books and always had this dream that when i grow up that i will travel the world. And thats exactly what i did.

For me, it was seeing National Geographic magazines as a child. I wanted to see all those exotic places.
Europe, Asia, the Americas... they were wonderfuI.
I still haven't made it to the middle east or Africa. If political situations ever calm down (which I doubt in my lifetime) then I will go there, too.

My Dad was an absolute Bohemian, genius type and returned from his travels with fertility dolls from Africa, Bull fighting posters from his Hemingway inspired trips. Bits and bobs from Germany, behind the Berlin wall, sneaking through check point Charlie, when you weren't supposed to go there. Salamis smuggled from Italy, brilliant toys from America that I had only ever seen in the comics that his many friends sent over. Meeting his friends when they came to England, some famous, some infamous, and their interesting tales and accents.
I wasn't allowed to watch TV when I was growing up so books were my first love, they inspired me too.
When I was young he escaped from Strangeways and so my childhood was spent on the run, in different countries and places.

Like pantstheist, it was pictures and magazines. I track my travels using GPS and load them into google earth. It is amusing to see that even after extensive travel I have hardly made a dent in all the unexplored places.

I joined the Royal Navy in 1961 to travel to exotic places, meet interesting people and kill them.

Where did you travel to, the trailer park next to yours?
I'm a westerner with a great appreciation for eastern cultures, I dont think any westerner is wise without that appreciation.

For me it was this underlying desire to make fun of all the worlds cultures. However, I felt that I couldn't make fun of them properly without actually visiting them.

I have never left America because I see no need to do so. God has awarded us with everything we need because we used to be one nation under God. But now the liberal infestation is starting to turn us into an atheistic police state.
