Having spent time in the USA dealing with HMO's, I can tell you I am extremly fortunate here in Canada.

With my HMO I didn't pick my doctor, treatment, hospital, heck there were times when my doctor didn't even get to pick my treatment. Really my health was just numbers, if an effective treatment was to expensive, a cheaper less expensive treatment would be preffered every time.

Here in Canada, I pick my doctor, i pick my hospital i pick my treatment. I have never once sat on a waiting list, and I live in the most populous city in Canada, go figure!

Unless you have dealt with a public health system it is entirely unfair to call it crap. You will find in almost every nation around the world people sing the praises of thier public health care system.

I think you are on to something. Democrats often paint Republicans as selfish rich people who will do anything to avoid giving up their privileges. Republicans often paint Democrats as selfish lazy people who want the government to be focused on supporting them so they don't have to work. There is some truth to both stereotypes, but most people do not fit either description.

Most conservatives probably distrust the motives of big business, and most liberals probably distrust the ability of government to run anything efficiently. Most of our fundamental values are shared, but we choose to focus on differences so we can get mad at each other. We mostly want the same ends, but we disagree on the best way to get there.

The right to affordable health care is a basic human right. You say, "government run health care. Its horrible, its terrible, I don't know why anyone would want it!!! " but statistics show that health care quality is BETTER in countries with universal health care. They also pay LESS money for it. Our current system is broken, there is no denying that. We are paying too much money for a system that covers too few people. We might as well take a lesson from countries like France that clearly do it right.

I am for universal health care in America for ALL people. I believe that health care is a right guaranteed under the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I believe it is a national disgrace that we have so many uninsured people, even citizens.
