Where's My Refund (WMR) - Site not updating - due to date filed?
I have seen this question everywhere also. I myself filed on the 12th - sent the 14th, accepted the 17th. I have a Declaration Number, TT (Turbo Tax) stated that my return Succeeded Agency. I contacted the IRS yesterday the 22nd and after holding spoke with a nice woman at the IRS who said my return was received and is in Processing. I then contacted Turbo Tax - and they said that I should have it the 29th, but they also stated they had NOT heard of the WMR problem that we any many have been having. I was also informed that if you attempt to use WMR too many times, it asks you to "reenter" your info.
After reading the endless posts and responses, I have come up with an idea - will all that have filed and are having issues please answer some questions.
A) Tax system used to file example: TT, Tax Act, H and R
B) Form used - example: 1040A or EZ
C) Last digit of SSN#.
D) State you live in.
E) Amount you expect to get back - you don't have to give to the exact dollar, but a ballpark figure.
Maybe we might be able to see with this data where we fall in the IRS's priorities.
Here's my answer:
A) TT
B)1040A
C) 5
D)Ohio
E) $8000.00
Okay - so I see that we are all on the east coast so far - I was told that it may be buy our first 3 digits - but I will not ask for those - keep them coming - lets find the secret to the IRS!
excuse the misprint
Lets add an F) What is your filing status -
Mine is Jointly
I read somewhere else that they go by ssn - maybe they do 0-4, on Wed., and then they 5-9, the following Wed., before dday? Keep them coming, we maybe up to something!
We have mixed data - we have Colorado - over 5 - accepted - then we have California who supports the SSN idea, of under 5 - accepted - we also have an outside source joint filed 1040a - with the last digit of 4 - that has been accepted and givin a refund date of feb 2.
@riverman - was it accepted or not?
I have some other answers to people who have had issues with TT - when you check your status at TT, and it says Federal "Extension" accepted - just ignore the word "extension", it is an error in the TT website - and they are fixing that now.
So Calli, Colorado, and Washington, already have some type of info available on WMR - but not the rest of us
CLEARLY! It is NOT the tax software used!
How many times are yo checking it each day? I am hereby NOT going to check my refund status again until Monday Morning! It will be hard - but maybe, just maybe, we have been blocked out of the server!

Accepted by IRS on the 17th
Posted this morning! :
Your tax refund is scheduled to be direct deposited on January 29, 2010. If your refund is not credited to your account by February 3, 2010, check with your bank to find out if it has been received. Please wait until February 3, 2010 before you contact us again because we are unable to take any action until then.

Hi, I filed my taxes already too. I used Turbo Tax and it shows that my return was accepted (according to Turbo Tax) and also lists SUCCEEDED_AGENCY (not sure what that means). Like many of you, I'm searching for answers because according to WMR on IRS website it shows no information what-so-ever. I also called the hotline and got nothing so I figured I'm just going to call tomorrow and try and get an actual person on the phone to see what's going on. My mother works for the IRS and after talking to her, she says that the IRS updates the WMR every Friday. She had also said that if no info was showing by today that it most likely means I will not get my taxes back until the 5th of February instead of the 29th of January (waiting an extra week). However, please do not let this panic anyone. She said most likely but there seems to also be a LOT of people who had their returns accepted around the same time. That means that some of us could probably expect to see our taxes on the 29th whereas other may have to wait until the 5th (although I hope not!) I've also read in several places that the system is having some errors. I hope that some of this has helped. My info is as follows;
1. TurboTax (which seems to be the commonly used program among many of us!)
2. Schedule C (self-employed)
3. My social starts with a 1 and ends with an 8....I figured I'd put both first and last number in case the socials really have anything to do with it.
4. Kansas
6. 5579 for Federal (was everyone giving a total of state and federal or just federal?)
7. My filing status is HH
Thanks and I hope we all have our answers soon. After talking to the IRS tomorrow and to my mom again I will re-post what new information I might have. Good luck to you all!

Like everyone else I was in the same boat. Accepted on the 17th and still nothing on WMR or by calling the 800 number. On Tuesday I read a lot of stuff about people who filed between 15-17 had errors and they went to the error department. Turbo tax is showing filing status for federal as a extension. So needless to say I freaked out and called the IRS.
On the phone the lady told me My taxes were already processed and scheduled for a DD of Friday.
I just want to point out that a lot of people are saying that they did not get a WMR update last year until after they received their refund due to taking up three weeks to update. If you are worried called the IRS and they will help. I will admit I feel much better giving them a call and finding out than sitting around wondering if something is wrong.
As it stands now pretty much everyone that called is approved and set to go for Friday. The best thing to do is just call or to wait until Friday and than call. As it looks stands now it just looks like they are not updating the WMR site to those who have efiled with direct deposit.
One more note I read a lot of people that filed on the 20 and after are showing up. The 20/21 falls under the second installment which is the first Friday of February. Basically from what I am reading anyone that was accepted prior to the 20/21 will get their refund on the 29th, as planned, and are the ones not being updated.

Updated this morning (last night at 11:50 pm there wasn't any update) with a refund date by the 9th of Feb then around 5pm it was back to no info. Efiled on the 15th, accepted on the 17th.
I checked twice once in the morning around 7am and once around 5 pm
1/27/10: Update: WMR is giving me info again, however I'm still listed as getting my refund by 2/9 not the 1/29 that I should. Maybe I'll just break down and call to find out why. My return was accepted on the 17th.

My status has not updated either so I called the IRS this morning 01/25/2010 @ 800-829-0582 x 362 and spoke with a representative she accessed my information and let me know that has been received but I am not expected to get my refund until 02/05/2010. I guess that is better than nothing, but I was hoping for this Friday. I would advise everyone that doesn't have a status to call the number for a piece of mind.
Have a great day :)
UPDATE: I checked the WMR website 1/27/2010 and my information was available. I have a DD date of 1/29/2010

Okay so here's what I can input to all of this. In past years I have had an issue where I would file always on the tuesday after MLK holiday, get accepted by wednesday and than thursday morning it would tell me my deposit was coming on that friday. Obvioulsy it never did as the irs does not issue refunds in 3 days. So every year upon calling the irs when the money was not deposited I am informed that the system errors and I will get my money in the first batch of deposits on the following friday, which does happen. Well this year I filed on the 15th, which was the friday befor the holiday and the first day the irs was accepting returns. Well I currently have no status on the WMR tool either. So upon making a call to the automated system over the past few days I have gotten mulitple messages. First I was told if I filed after December 31st I needed to wait 3 weeks to call as it can take 3 weeks to process a return. Then I called and it told me if I filed after January 3rd I needed to wait 3 weeks to call, then the most recent call told me if I filed after December 12th that I needed to wait 6 weeks as it can take 6 weeks to process a refund. So obviously the irs infomation is constantly changing. Well this infact is annoying and I made a call to the irs and waited on hold for 45 minutes to get some better information. I was told that the wmr tool DOES NOT update nightly, that my refund was accepted and being processed and I should check the wmr tool on the 1st monday that is atleast 1 week from my filing date which would be the monday off the week my deposit should be made. I was also told there is no lockout from checking it to much, if you had a status and it goes away it is more than likely because the system is bogged down and it has a default mode to keep it from crashing. I was also told no one got their refund this weekend that was a system glitch which has happened before and I can vouch for that because as I said it has happened to me. Don't know how much this will help anyone but hope it does.

A) Taxslayer originally then Turbo Tax (see Below for more details)
B)1040
C) 8
D)New York
E) $5600
F.) Single
Ok so originally I used TaxSlayer to submit on the 15th. The 17th got a rejection due to missing forms and SSN mismatches. This was due to TaxSlayer having an issue in submitting forms and they were just submitting the 1040 by itself. Due to this being a pretty big mistake for tax software/website, I decided to file with TurboTax. Submitted morning of the 18th received an acceptance on the evening of the 18th with a DCN and an Submission ID (RSN). I have checked 2-3 times a day also checking after major server updates (posted on the IRS website) and never received an update on the Wheres My Refund page. I called the IRS three times using various numbers. I reached one guy who told me it could take up to 3 weeks of processing. Spoke to another woman who said that if they were accepted then I should rest assure they will be deposited on the 29th knowing she didn't look anything up. Called again but this time got directed by an operator. Spoke to a woman who actually looked up my info. She was confused being originally they were rejected. I then read her the Acceptance notification with the DCN number. She put me on hold then looked it up again. She said she found it and it was scheduled for Feb 5th. I asked why so long when it was supposed to be sent the 29th. She checked again and said it was the 29th and apologized she had looked at the wrong refund table (paper not direct deposit). I am confident to expect my refund this Friday however still a tad bit skeptical. If you call, I suggest getting the person to look up your info and be polite about it. If they cant give you the answer your looking for ask simply to be transferred to someone else as it seems some of them have access to certain info others don't (which makes complete sense for security). I'm assuming because I had multiple submissions on my account the WheresMyRefund site is not able to look up my information correctly. I do know some tax websites and software products have had minor glitches due to new additions for credits and how educational credits have changed as well. In any case, there really should'nt be problems like this. Even though I am getting a refund I still paid out tax dollars after the refund (Ie not getting back everything). On a customer/business perspective this would be unacceptable. However, it is a government agency and there are millions expecting refunds. I hope this info helps anyone who is in need of it. (as of 1/26/2009)
UPDATE: On 1/27/2009 WheresMyRefund states a deposit date of Jan 29th.

Me:
1)taxact.com
2)1040
3)2
4)PA
5)$1923
Fiancee:
1)taxact.com
2)1040
3)2
4)PA
5)$865
I think the issue is that the people who filed right away are not seeing the info. I was accepted on 1/17 and still see nothing on WMR, but my fiancee was accepted on 1/21, and her info just showed up about a half hour ago.
***UPDATE***
The morning of 1/27, WMR showed I will get my refund DD on 1/29.

I spoke to a very nice IRS lady today, my taxes have been in the Error Resolution Department for 3 days now, she said she didnt see a letter issued as of yet and that there may not be one depending on the error. She said that due to the overabundance of early filers this year the system may have a decimal glitch or something that is causing this error, but that I could check back in another couple days of which I intend to stay on them til I have my refund, I need it yesterday. She said that department usually turns them around quick if its a easy fix its all based on if they need info from the filer or not but that that department has to have them turned around with some kind of resolution before the estimated 3 week mark they state. So I guess I am keeping my fingers crossed its a glitch.
But let me mention I was reading this whole post and responses and I noticed, most of us have refunds in excess of 3000 so I am wondering if their system kicks them to the resolution department if the refund exceeds a certian amount,
Another input the lady told me is the do update daily processing and the they are aware the website is not updating properly because she said everyone calling is saying the same thing, in fact her own return was going through the same issue. She also stated that the abundance of processing happens on the weekend and updates on Mondays....just a fyi of what I was told today.
Im game to get answers, so heres my input on the first post...
