What is the Greatest Story of Faith in the Bible?

One of the greatest stories is found in Mark 5: 24-34. This speaks of a woman who had an issue of blood for 12 years. She reached out to Christ, touched the hem of His garment and was instantly healed. Her faith is what healed her. She had faith that if she could just touch the hem of his garment she would be healed and she was. How many of us have that kind of faith.

The amazing thing about this whole scenario

is she initially appears on the surface to be an intrusion:

she approaches Jesus [a Rabbi] while He is on His way

to the house of Jairus, whose child was dying.

Jewish customs and protocol were so stringent

that any woman on her cycle they were to be isolated,

and anything that they touched (including themselves)

was deemed unclean she risked everything and knew

all she had to do was to toch the corners of Jesus' prayer shawl

Because she knew the Scripture concerning the Messiah' healing

in His wings ( the long tassles on the shawl) she touched one,

    He felt power leave Him. Because she had such faith,and risked so much;

Jairus' also had a reason to celebrate: her touch made the Rabbi

"unclean" and He could go into dead child and touch her, and heal her.

I often wonder what St. Jerome would make of the reformation and its present-day legacy with regard to the Holy Bible which his work produced, the Latin Vulgate, upon which all English translations were based -- including the 1611 KJV. Were it not for all of those painstakingly handwritten copies of the Vulgate, preserved through the centuries by dedicated men of the Church, there would be no "sola scriptura". Whether some fundamentalists like it or not, the Bible they whap folks over the head with came to them through Catholic hands. And if they can't bring themselves to acknowledge that, surely they can at least spare a nod of thanks in the direction of Jerome.

    I love stories on Faith.

    Acts 5:12

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. 13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. 16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

The story of Esther and how she risked

her life to save the people of Israel

Her selfless act of devotion is the reason

the Jewish people celebrate Purim today.

I love the story in the Old Testament with the widow,

her son,and the Prophet Elijah they were down to their

last portions of oil and flour, she was going to fix them

their last meal, and then they were going to die.

The prophet asks her to feed him first, she does, and the

supernatural miracle of overflow takes place,God multiplies her

flour and oil and even though there is famine in the land,

Her pantry, and she and her son's bellies were full.

I love the story of Abraham and how He believed God when there was clearly no hope, in the natural, of the promise being fulfilled. He even tried to "help God out" by having a child with Hagar but God wasn't impressed. I am moved by Abraham's humanity as he grapples with the promise and chooses to believe, even when people make fun of him. God even has Abraham change his name from Abrahm to Abraham (exalted father to father of many) to add insult to injury and try his faith. Can you imagine telling everyone-"Oh by the way, I know I'm as old as dirt and my wife isn't much younger, but God changed my name to Abraham because I'm going to be the father of many." His heir was his servant, and Abraham was a wealthy man. His wife laughed when the angels came to eat with them and told them that next year she was going to have a son. But Abraham didn't shrink from the promise. Forsaking his reputation and his self respect, he believed God for all.

    I wanna be like Abraham.

The young widow who follows her old,

mother-in-law back to Israel where she not

only lovingly cares for her,but she meets the man

of her destiny: Boaz, and through their union, she

becomes the great, great, grandmother of King David.

Ruth is my favorite when her daughter in law says to her where you go I will go and your people will be my people ask me not to leave you or to ever stop following your God will be my God. Not in those exact words but kind of like that, I have never forgotten those lines they were part of my wedding vows. The Bible is always near me.
