Yellow labs shed more than black or chocolate Labs?

I adopted a black Lab, from Guide dogs for the Blind. She shed very little..not even noticeable.

My parents adopted one from same, and she didn't shed noticeably either. Of course, both were brushed lightly daily.

I normally assume it would be affected by diet, but Purina was about the best that was available back then.(1975)

As they were bred specifically for the GDB program, they may have been bred for less shedding?

Yellow Labs

I have a yellow and he sheds a great deal but I know that several black Labs that shed just as much. I honestly do not think it is a statement you make that general. I worked with Labs of all colors for years and I know the yellow hair shows up more, like it is more noticeable because of color. The black and chocolate blends in better. But I do not think that the color makes the difference.

Nope, Labradors regardless of colour shed daily year around. Colour DOES NOT affect the shedding. Colour DOES NOT AFFECT THE DOGS TEMPERMENT.

More likely the diet is affecting the shedding, which would explain why the dog groomer said that Yellow labs shed more then black and chocolate.

Also genetics may also play a part in this therory

All long haired dogs shed constantly. And since their hair is so much longer that the short haired dogs, you notice it way more. When the weather changes from cold to cool and then to warm, they shed like crazy for a couple of weeks or sometimes more. Now something to think about though, is if the dog sheds a large amount during the winter months or you begin to notice thin/bald patches, it's not getting a healthy diet and it may also have a mild form of mange. Even short haired dogs shed year round, just like humans, but irregular amounts and times of the year, usually indicate a health problem.

No, this is not true.

We have all color labs in our dog clubs, they all shed, year round, not just twice a year, that groomer is kinda off base and needs to study up more on the breeds she grooms.

The diet, the genetics, is what determines the dogs shedding ability,...poor diets, feeding bad dog foods, will make a dog shed more than anything else...

We had a yellow and black lab when I was a teen, and the dogs did not shed that much,but did shed, and it was year round..........

One did not shed more than the other.....

i had a yellow lab and my uncle had a chocolate lab, his shed a lot, don't know if it was cause of old age, cause by the time i was a teenager that dog was already very old, my yellow lab, i don't remember him shedding that much, i had him for 2years and sadly had to be put to sleep for health problems, its sad, i put 3thousand dollars into him, from day one of being home till he was 1yr old, he was an indoor dog, but i don't remember him shedding as much as my uncle's chocolate labrador, i mean if your hand was wet and you touched his chocolate labrador, my hand would be covered in hairs, all over, don't remember my yellow lab doing that, i kept him well groomed, and he got a bath every 10 to 13days, he was a good dog, a little stubborn, but a good dog,

I have a black lab and my downstairs neighbor has a yellow lab.

His lab sheds more than mine does. You pet him and his hair comes out. His hair also feel greasier than my labs hair does. She is glossier, where he is more matte in tone of fur.

I don't know if it is actually true, but given my experience, the yellow lab does shed more. We do feed our dog a food without grains, by-products, fillers, and any of that other crap that they put in dog food. The dog food formula is especially for healthy skin and fur quality. It could just be that.

Also, there are actually different types of labs. Mine is an english lab. I'm not sure if that makes a difference either.

I have no idea if it's true or not, but this is my experience.

I have a black lab and a yellow lab. My yellow lab sheds all the time it's insane! So it sounds true compared to my dogs but all dogs are different
