I am not sure about the process, but you should know that when earning degrees in astronomy, you are required to take more than twice the amount of physics courses than astronomy courses. I wanted to major in astronomy but I hate a lot of physics that isnt involved directly with astronomy so I am dropping it now sadly.

Theres a lot of work in Astronomy and as the other guy said, Physics is one.

Someone on this site is studying it, and said it takes about 8 years all together.

Also Jobs in Astronomy are really rare, unless you live in the States (If you do, you're lucky)
