Majoring in Accounting.?
Is Intermediate Accounting a class designed to weed out all but the top-knotch biz students from taking accounting in good biz schools? I am going to earn my first B, and put simply, I don't know how to improve upon what I am already doing. I am reasonably intelligent and I do more than most in not only preparing for exams, but also in constructing detailed notes to carry with me for the rest of my life. Should I be discourage with my low B test scores in my major? I'm still doing A work in my biz law, fin, mngmnt, and marketing classes.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoSalary/benefits at USAA?
Working on a masters in accounting and I am going to take the CPA exam. High GPA, active military veteran, and commissioning in the reserves. Do I have a good shot at employment with USAA? What kind of remuneration could I be looking at? Are there benefits competitive?
1 AnswerSan Antonio1 decade agoExpansion of the Universe?
In astronomy class last year I learned that the the Universe's expansion was at an accelerating rate. However, lately I have read some reputable books that say the expansion rate is decreasing and will continue to decrease without ever completely stopping. What gives?
2 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoWomen's Basketball a joke?
Why do we have the WNBA. From my understanding, the league can't even hold its own. It has to be subsidized by the NBA to cover its expenses. It is professional sports, not a charity. I don't think it is fair we live in a world where athletes make more in a year than most people make in a lifetime. As a business scholar I appreciate good business comes with good profits; however, in this case we are paying these women way more than they are worth. "NBA Cares" seems like a good idea, why don't they scratch women's ball and spend their money of something worth a damn, instead of just trying to open up a market for women that doesn't really exist in the name of "equality"
2 AnswersBasketball1 decade agoCepheid Variable Stars?
Can someone please break down for me why we can learn the distance of galaxies via observing these stars. I know that they pulsate, and supposedly, the relationship between their pulsations and time we are able to estimate the distance. I guess I just don't understand that concept.
3 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoPassion for Astronomy?
I am almost done with a masters in Accounting. Unfortunately, It took me until I'm 26 and engaged to figure this out. Anyway, I have only taken one class (Astronomy 2003, basics) for fun and am starting to catch up on some leisure reading: "wrinkles in time" and "the whole shebang" to start. Perhaps after I work for a while I can go back and earn a Phd in Astronomy; however, when I go back I may also continue my Phd studies in finance/accounting/economics, so I'm wondering if it is possible to earn a strong academic aptitude in the field of astronomy/astrophysics/cosmology without a "proper" education. I love business as well and I am so close to earning my CPA and other licenses, but I want to explore astronomy. Any suggestions? Also, I have no interest in constellations, I don't see there prevalence in the subject. TO me, they are art rather than science. Is it a problem I am not interested in them. The only useful thing I could think of is using them for galactic navigation.
1 AnswerAstronomy & Space1 decade agoquantum mechanics and relativity?
In what ways do quantum mechanics and the theory of relativity conflict with each other? Also, (two questions for the price of one) if during, or shortly after the big bang, when te universe was dense and hot, how come it didn't collapse?
These may Qs may hurt an astronomer's eyes. Sorry, I just finished an astronomy course and I am going to keep my studies going through books during my leisure time, and these were to Qs that just popped in my head.
3 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoHow to prepare for CPA exam?
I'm in my junior year of the 5-year accounting program (BA/Macc). Our books have CPA review sections in them. Also graduates from my program have a first-time success rate that has been number 1 in the country 2 out of the last 4 years. So, If I continuously treat my course work as study material for the CPA, may I be able to pass the CPA right after school without having to buy all that expensive study material. Most people I know that are trying to get a CPA have been out of school for a while and only an undergrad degree. So I would be in a relatively strong position if i Plan to take it right after school, no?
2 AnswersFinancial Services1 decade agoQuestions from trouble makers?
Is it just me, or has anyone noticed that there have been a lot of people asking questions about why they are being mistreated for for calling soldiers murders or what have you?
These people are liars, and I encourage everyone not to waste your time defending yourself or our soldiers. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if it was some private in the barracks trying to cause trouble.
Is there anyway to clean up this mess? I wish Yahoo answers was more screened and less tolerant of these people.
5 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoActive Guard Reserve?
When I receive my commission in the reserves I will still be earning my masters in accounting. If, I get branched finance, is there a chance I can go AGR and work for DFAS in cleveland? Or is DFAS civilian only? I wouldn't mind going back home; however, I assume I would probably make more working for them as an officer than a civilian - especially with my years of service.
1 AnswerMilitary1 decade agoMore specialized army?
Does any reasonable person have some thoughts on the costs/benefits of downsizing the army, with the goal of maximizing efficiency per person through a more selective recruiting scheme? Followed by better, more specialized training for each soldier. I was AD for 4 years, now in the reserves, and this is something I have often squandered with.
For most business applications, I believe this would produce a more capable, cost efficient company; just not sure if it would translate well in the army. To be frank - do we just need some guys who just react without thinking, or could I be on to something??
4 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoare rates at usaa better for officers?
I have had usaa for 4 years now as an enllistee, and i have a good record with them. When I commission, will my rates go up/down (whichever is better for the respective product)? If yes, substantially? thx
3 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoLoan amortization interest?
I understand loan amortization for the most part. I understand you are figuring out a schedule of equal payments over a period time, and how often the interest is compounded, along with the given iterest and principal of the loan.
My question is, Why does the amount of interest decrease over time as the principal falls.
I know the payments add up to the total amount of the principal plus all the interest compounded, so why isn't the interest equally split. My book doesn't say why. they just say that it happens.
Thanks
probably not something i need to know, but it's important

2 AnswersPersonal Finance1 decade agoDo I need to put in much effort to raise GT Score?
Ok, I am working toward a BA/MAcc "a dual bachelo/master degree in Bus Administration and Masters of Accounting respectively. My reserve retention NCO is going to get my packet ready for direct commission; however, my gt score is 107 and it needs to be 110. I took this test as a junior in high school when I didn't care about school and did not prepare at all. Now, I am a much better writer and scholar. I'm in my senior year with a 3.9. at a good Bus. school. Does anyone think I should waste money and time preparing to raise it. Or should those 3 points come easy?

2 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoAccounting to Astronomy?
I am earning my masters in accounting and then I am commissioning into the air force. I was enlisted for a while active duty, and I have been in the reserves while in school so I want to capitalize on that. Anyway, I don't pretend to be a connoisseur; however I have an honest passion to learn as mush as possible in astronomy. I have taken a few classes as electives and supplemented my classes with a lot of extra reading.
Anyway, Once I commission, what steps should I take so that I can eventually earn a PhD in astronomy. I assume I should take as many physics and astronomy classes while I'm in the Air Force and when I retire, apply for PhD candidacy.
I'll be 43 when I retire, will that make it harder to get accepted.
Can I slowly earn it while I'm in the service?
Thank you
3 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoAdvanced education opportunities in the Air Force?
When I commission I will already have a masters in accounting. Would the Air Force send me to earn a PhD or to get a CPA license? Or, will I have enough spare time to seek out education on my own? Or is the Air Force like the army where they promise education; however, you are always doing something that prevents you from investing the appropriate time needed?
1 AnswerMilitary1 decade agoAir Force Finance Officer question?
Are there any Air Force Officers that graduated with a business degree (more specifically accounting) that can give some advice.
Also if i may ask a few Qs: where would I train after graduation? for the most part, could i be stationed anywhere? on a scale from 1-10, how much will my request for a duty station matter? I don't like asking Cadre a lot of Qs so any help would be great.
1 AnswerMilitary1 decade agoWill Air Force Officer life be better than AFROTC for this frustrated Army Veteran?
These 20 year old cadets are really annoying. I do not want to have a bad attitude towards them though. It's not their fault. However, it's hard to conform when my flight leader ( a kid) is telling me to fill out three personal goals; and, i have to say "yes Sir!" I mean, does anyone see my point? Can I get some advice. I'm a senior with a near perfect GPA and an OIF Vet. Will things get better?
