Is this a good example of Christian circular reasoning?

Jesus performed miracles to prove that he was God. He didn't absolutely reveal himself as God because that would take away peoples free will. I.E. If he revealed himself as God by some major undeniable miracle it would destroy the concept of free will to believe in him. Little miracles that proved he was God would not. What the h*ll is that? Have your cake and eat it too?

Update:

Anna P, actually I have taken several. I also have several degrees and have attended five seperate Universities and one Seminary to gather these degrees. I know circular reasoning when I see it.

Update 2:

T Mac, Some Christians use his miracles as proof that he was God. That is a fact.

Update 3:

What I said or meant to say is that some Christians say Jesus' miracles prove his Divinity. I have heard this argument many times.

That is number 326 out of over 500 contradictions in the bible.

You wrote, "Jesus performed miracles to prove that he was God."

FALSE: Actually, the opposite is true: In his temptation in the wilderness ("If you are really the Son of God, then turn these stones into bread," etc.), Jesus flatly *refused* to perform miracles to prove that he was God.

If you want to think this story never actually happened, fine--but you can't change the fact that this is what the story *says* happened: And since Jesus flatly refused to do the starting point of your argument, your argument falls apart.

Yes, Jesus did (at least according to the four Gospel accounts) perform miracles. And in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus repeatedly asks the people who received miracles NOT to tell anyone that he did so: Both conservative and liberal Christian theologians refer to this as the "messianic secret." So the purpose of the miracles was never to prove that he was God, but rather to show the character of God--nurture, care, tenderness.

Perhaps you may think Jesus didn't make his case very well--but be sure that your claim is that he didn't do what *he said* he was setting out to do, and not that he didn't do what *you think* he was setting out to do.

Jesus mostly performed miracles, as an act of love or to help people understand a new Truth.

Jesus [creator] did not need to prove He was God to people [created], by being a magician.

He did not display His full glory, not because of anyone's free will concerns, but because it would be contrary to becoming the second Adam.

God, who created free will in His created, had and has no intention of eliminating it.

By Jesus becoming like you [second Adam], miracles performed notwithstanding, He became positioned to present Himself, as a sacrificial lamb for sinners, at Judgement Day, where you'll be concerned, that instant, with more than cake.

sorry, not a good example. Jesus did Not perform miracles to prove that he was God. He healed out of love and compassion - like in Matthew 14:14.

He didn't have to 'prove' anything.

Putting Jesus in His Place: The Case for the Deity of Christ

by Robert Bowman, J. Ed Komoszewski, and Darrell L. Bock

You admit the miracles and deny the deity. That would be a sin against the Holy Spirit, would it not ?

Free will is also completely irrelevant. You just don't believe what Jesus said to people like you. I will repeat his lesson about how God has already given (and affirms that He has given) all that is needed.

    Ready ?

"He cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue! For I am in anguish in this flame.’

"But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in like manner, bad things. But now here he is comforted and you are in anguish. Besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’

He said, ‘I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house; for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, so they won’t also come into this place of torment.’

    "But Abraham said to him,

‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’

"He said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’

"He said to him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets,

neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.’"" <======== Is this correct ?

    YES IT IS.

"He didn't absolutely reveal himself as God because that would take away peoples free will."

    Christians claim this sometimes.

    It's absurd.

Evidence doesn't take away people's free will. Creationists are proof of this. Flat-Earthers are an even more egregious example.

I guess, apparently, the bible is a contradiction. What a surprise.

I saw this jewel yesterday: Isn't this just the quintessential proof of fundie logic?

"because i have more proof of God then you have proof of evolution."

This is why I don['t argue these types of issues with people who just are trying to prove something (maybe to themselves?). Have you taken a logic class lately?

    no its not

jesus performed miracles to show he was sent from jehovah god

jesus told them many times he was their messiah who came to give them eternal life

he did do a undeniable miracle they refused to believe

The mission of Jesus was not to do miracles. That was something he did while he was here. His mission was to atone for our sins, die on the cross, and be resurrected. Why do people continue to ignore the main mission of Christ.
