What type of filter for a 2 gallon tank??
I just bought a 6 inch oscar and was wondering does it need a filter and is the tank big enough????? Lol, im just kidding, dont get your panties in a twist. Running out of tank room, and saw my female Geophagus is holding today. I found this little 2 gallon tank Ive had buried for god knows how long. All my 10 gallon fry tanks are occupied right now, so I figured Id use this thing until one of them frees up. Not sure what type of filtration to use for something this small?????? HOB??? Really have no idea what to use for a tank this small, any idea's, websites, whatever you have will be very helpful. THanks much
thanks for the input!! not really a fan of the breeder nets, 1. the fish get stuck in the corners. 2. bigger fish can suck the fry through the net. buying another 10 gallon tank isint an option right now, not only do i not have the room, but i dont like half assing it, i would need to get a hood or lid and light. im thinking im gonna put a tank divider in my 10 gallon and seperating the fry.
the smallest sponge filter ive seen is made my ati and its rated for a 10 gallon and would create way too much current for a 2 gallon, not to mention take up half the tank, and also takes a sponge about 6-8 weeks to get ready for any bio-load,

I don't know what you could do other than more frequent water changes/cleaning out the waste as soon as you see it. Are filters even available that small...?
Good luck

There are a few options for that size tank, but since it is a temporary fry tank a sponge filter would be best. None of the fry have to worry about getting sucked up that way.
You could pick up another 10 gal for around $10. Geo's won't last long in a 2 gal tank, and it is hard to keep everything steady enough for fry in that small of a tank.
Another option would be to get a floating breeding net and put the fry in it after she spits them. With the breeding net you won't have to worry about buying a new filter and heater for a temporary set up.

Get a 10 gallon tank and appropriate filter. A 2 gallon is much too small to provide proper aeration. The little guy is suffocating.
