Where to find a trap for a large dog in the Sacramento area? A friend wants to help a dog he has been feeding.?
My friend is a light rail train operator, and the dog frequents his tracks. My friend must regularly avoid running over this animal, and now he wishes to try to help it by bringing it to his home. We see many dog traps on line, but he would rather purchase locally. Elk Grove, specifically. Anybody know of any stores that have this? Thank you.
Good answers all, folks. My friend has radioed in the problem, but the dog is off the beaten path for Animal Control. They have responded but could not find the dog. My friend is not young and is not foolish, and knows his way around on these railroad tracks. I guess I was just hoping that someone knew a Sacramento store that sells this, because my friend is set on saving this dog.
Thank you all for the kind help! This situation has actually been going on for a couple of years. My friend eventually started taking food to the dog, 18 lb bags poured into an old truck tire rim, and apparently others have been feeding the dog as well. This is a few hundred yards north of the Meadowview light rail station in Sacramento, a train Right-Of-Way between a residential neighborhood and an industrial area. Today after work, Kurt was carrying a ten lb sack of doggie bones to his car, and he fessed up the whole story to me.
So: Again, thanks to all, and I will take your advice to heart and pass it on.

Don't do this. He needs to call animal control and let them handle it.

His local animal control will be willing to trap the animal...he can let them know that he'd like to keep the animal if it's owners can't be found when he calls them. If he insists on doing it himself, he can try to borrow a trap from animal control or purchase one at a farm supply store. The dog may just be lost from his home, though, I hope your friend is willing to try to help him find his way home, if possible...the best way to do this is for him to turn the dog over to animal control (which is required by law where I live, and possibly where he lives, too).
