Protestant sect that accepts gays?
I'm Christian, but I firmly believe in gay rights. Right now I go to a church that's nondenominational but preaches against homosexuality. I just feel really uncomfortable being a part of it, and it makes me a little angry that they're closed-minded. But I've dealt with it because church is important to me, and I don't know of any churches that don't condemn homosexuality. What Protestant sects accept gays, and how do their views differ from, say, the Baptist faith or your run-of-the-mill Christian beliefs? (In case there was any question, I'm straight, I'm just compassionate towards gay people.)

Some Methodists, some Episcopalian and some Presbyterians.
These groups normally do not believe the Bible is to be literally applied. They think of the Bible more like a history of primitive people and their dealings with God according to the culture they lived in.
Some of these simply want homosexuals to marry rather than have sex outside of marriage. Some ordain homosexuals and some do not.
Unitarian Universalists accept everyone including atheists. It is a social action ,all inclusive non religion. At one time Unitarians were Christians. They accept people of all faiths or non faiths now. The leader will normally have a degree in comparative religion or administration.

Quakers say
"Where there is a genuine tenderness, an openness to responsibility, and the seed of commitment, God is surely not shut out. Can we not say that God can enter any relationship in which there is a measure of selfless love?"

No protestant faith believes that ultimate a gay way of existence is suitable. Heard the expression hate the sin, love the sinner? in spite of the indisputable fact that persons tend to place various tiers on sin, like homicide, rape and ultimate a gay way of existence are someway any distinctive than mendacity, cheating, committing adultery, or hate. Sin is sin interior the eyes of God and He accepts you and loves you. The seventh-day Adventists have faith each little thing which you reported different than the sinning area.

I'm compassionate too, and I am straight.
My denomination (Check the Source box) allows you to accept gays for who they are, and it is said to be a sin in the Holy Bible, but we acknowledge that it is their sin if so, and not ours. We accept gays into clergy and the denomination. We have gay rights activists, and protesters, it's chock full of all types of political beliefs. :)

I know that the Unitarian Universalists are open-minded when it comes to that. I know there are others, too, but that's the only one I'm certain of, off the top of my head, because I know someone whose mother is a lesbian minister.

Personally, I don't know of any particular denomination that openly welcomes gays. I thing it's largely a matter of how the pastor feels about it. I like your style, though. Keep looking.
