How come when I eat ravenously or eat spicy food, my nose gets boogery?

I noticed that when I'm really enjoying food and eating it like an animal, and when I eat super good spicy food, my nose gets wet like a faucet, and boogers start to leak out and stuff, and it gets in the way of my food-enjoyment.

What causes this?

    He he ravenous eater? :D

I actually learned this yesterday in science. Your body tastes through smell so your nose is a huge part of food consumption. Your nose allows the taste by the smell of the food. So when your nose is stuffy you can't really taste food. So the spicy food have well a spicy smell (duh). Your are breathing and your breathing through your nose since your mouth is occupied eating food (*ahem* ravenously :P) The spice's smell are traveling through your nasal passages and the spices can irritate your nose. When your nose is irritated it leaks in order to rid the residue in the nose. So your spicy food is giving or a smell that is affecting you nose and making it leak. Maybe you can try to avoid inhaling/sniffing up the spicy food... or you could just stuff tissues up your nose when you feel your nose is about to have a party to ruin your "Eating experience". Some people get teary instead of runny or vice versa you just have to deal with it. And since your mexican we all know hispanics have all the spicy food they can possibly make i know... im a puerto rican :DDD

Source(s): I know Spanish food smells good .... try not to sniff it !!! ;)

It could be the spices of the food. I mean when people eat spicy foots, that can happen. Also, people's eyes can be watery too. I think that it could be the impact of the foods though they be good. You know when you are gonna cry and your throat and maybe your nose can burn at times, and your eyes water? I think that it's the same thing that can happen when eating spicy foods.

    Hopes this helps!

My daughter ate fantastically a lot what we ate from round 10-11 months, spices and all. although she did flow by a spell in the time of her preschool years at the same time as she did not like particularly spiced ingredients. you would likely pick to leave the chopped Habanero peppers off of toddler's element, and pass the not ordinary taco shells, yet except that, i visit't see why he couldn't eat the different elements contained in the tacos.
