Old British bikes > What would be the best magazine / website to look at to source a decrepit item to restore?
Hi Folks,
In semi-retirement, I plan to restore an old Brit bike to the finest possible condition within my means.
I have a history of owning a sequence of a few fine machines many years ago, and despite ending up with Japanese jobs, my heart somewhat still lies in BSA, Triumph, Norton etc etc, and the challenge of stopping Royal Enfields from peeing out oil.
I have a small limited workshop, so would out-source any machined parts required.
No problem in stripping down to the last washer, and rebuilding.
A project for the summer, but who is best to contact regarding acquiring a complete or near complete item ?
The dream of finding a Vincent in a barn has evaporated !
Thanks,
Bob

The Classic mags are ok, but the advertisers do tend to have ambitious ideas on price. Don't forget Old Bike Mart - not sold on the shelves but the sub is cheap. Keep an eye on Bike trader and ebay as well.
Local clubs and word of mouth is best, somewhere near you there will be a collector deciding to thin the fleet, and deciding which projects he will never get round to!
Good hunting!
PS Bob, as you have a soft spot for Enfields, you might like this chap's project. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjZJfr2QkZA&feature...

Try here
http://www.classicmotorcycle.co.uk/
http://www.classicbikeguide.com/
Both have a back issues library so you can order a test or rebuild of many models.
And owners clubs are always good, for projects and for parts and advice.
The reason there are unfinished projects out there is that they can be long jobs, the general advice is to start on something simple and cheap BSA Bantams etc, or start on an oldish Japanese machine, in which case I can recommend this magazine (which also has a number of British bikes in the classifieds but is mainly aimed at Japanese).

If you live in the US try going to "Hemmings Motor News".
If it has wheels and can be ridden, sooner or later one will be for sale there!
Now you need to know that a subscriber gets his copy most times before it goes on sale on the news stands, and an ad will be posted on the web site after both have taken place. So if it is a rare item that you are looking for, it is best to subscribe and get the jump on every one else.
I did a search for Norton there, but the link did not copy.

It has lots to do with the nutrition plan that human beings consume, their ecosystem and evolution. over the years 12 year olds and stuff slowly started out looking older and older and in my view i think of this is with the aid of nutrition. We consume quickly nutrition the place we don't be conscious of have the ingredients, drink milk with extra hormones (no longer absolutely everyone does this yet i'm speaking majority) and the hormones could make you bypass by way of puberty earlier, that's why 7 year olds are commencing to get their era and ****. Society is ****** up huh?
