Pick your England XI for the World Cup?
I'm interested to see who people would choose for the England starting XI for this summer. I'd like to see serious, unbiased choices with a brief statement about why you're picking each player (form, experience, seems to play well for England, etc.) The 10 points will go to whoever provides the most reasoning for their choices. Thanks

A classic 4-4-2 formation:
GK: David James - This is one of England's weakness. James is the only one that is decent while the rest are inconsistent and unreliable.
RB: Glen Johnson - Best choice England has. Neville is a benchwarmer for United and others aren't doing quite as well as Johnson has.
CB: John Terry - Forget about the scandal and remember that this guy is class. He has the heading abilities for set pieces and he's as tough as a metal wall in defense.
Rio Ferdinand - Even though Rio isn't in his best form, I cannot think of other CB's that has an equal amount of quality that Ferdinand has.
LB: Ashley Cole - Cole is absolutely quality compared to other LB's. I might have picked Barry but he isn't showing form lately.
RM: David Beckham - It's not that Lennon or Walcott is bad but Beckham is something England needs, a professional player with experience. Walcott is an injury prone and a benchwarmer while Lennon is only a talent and has not shown any brilliance. Beckham is doing quite well Milan, serving up crosses.
CM: Frank Lampard - One the best best English players as of right now. Need I say more?
Michael Carrick - Carrick is a well-rounded midfielder who can support in attacks and fall back in defense.
LM: Ashley Young - A brilliant young player who has potential and has great pace in attacks. He can be a great additional target for Beckham's crosses.
CAM/Second Striker: Steven Gerrard - I don't understand why Capello isn't putting Stevie G in this type of position. Gerrard obviously scores better in this position and is much better than a partner striker for Rooney. Gerrard's eye for goal is amazing and he is a brilliant maestro on the pitch.
CF: Wayne Rooney - Of course one of England's best. The ultimate goal scorer and a major danger for the opposing team. He can also do well as a lone striker as he had shown in United.
To be honest, England is not that great of a team compared to others. They really lack quality players.

I'd play 4-5-1 (well more 4-1-3-1-1) because England only have one world class striker.
Across the back I would have had
Bridge Ferdinand Terry A.Cole, but the dynamics of Bridge and Terry would not be good so
Johnson (RB)/R. Ferdinand/Terry/A.Cole
Across the midfield I'd play Barry in a holding midfield role. He's just a solid player and would be in almost any international team, starting, so why should England waste him on the bench for a lesser quality player (Defoe, Bent etc)
Gerard would play as an out and out CM, with Lampard as an attacking midfielder, basically a striker. The reason for that is that Gerard is likely to score from 30, Lamps from 20. Also, Gerard is by far the better defender of the two and way more likely to get back.
My wings would be Young on the left. His speed and shooting make him the obvious choice for a team with only one striker and he can cut in. On the right would be Joe Cole. Who else is there? He is straight class and can score goals as well as get the assists. Plus, a proven relationship with Lamps is not a bad thing. Even if they are *****.
Up front would be Rooney, do I even need to explain that?
Oh and in goal would be Green. On their best days both Robinson and James are better, but how do you know if they'll be in form in any game. At a world cup consistency is important, because one bad game kicks you out. So Green for me. Also, if it goes to penalties who else would anyone want but Green? He has an amazing record.
So...
..............Green
Johnson/Rio/Terry/Cole
...........Barry
..............Gerard
Cole.....Lampard.......Young
...........Rooney

If all currently injured players are fit come summer:
GK. James - Best England have got really.
LB. Cole - If not injured. Good attacker. Solid in defense.
RB. Richards. Would say Johnson, but Johnson hasn't shown consistency at international level. Richards deserves a shot.
CB. Terry. Without the armband though. As good a central defender as they come.
CB. Ferdinand. Reads the game better than anyone else. Needs to stay injury free though.
RM: Walcott. Showed against Croatia what he can do. Pace is a must on the wing.
CM: Lampard. Holds well, distributes well, plus a goal threat going forward.
CM: Barry. Best holding midfielder in England. Would love to see Hargraves, but he's not going to be fit by then.
LM: Gerrard. Not really as a winger though. More as an attacking midfielder, but he'd have to drift wide to cover the left. Best attacking midfielder England have.
ST. Rooney. I don't really need to explain this one do I?
ST. Defoe. We need someone who's got pace and will play on the last man. Shown he can score goals at international level.
Could play Wright-Phillips down the left side and slot Gerrard in behind Rooney, leaving Defoe on the bench. But I don't think W-P is consistent enough.

GK- Joe Hart- to me is the best choice in england, great for birmingham this season
RB- wes brown- only because glen johnson is injured at the moment
CB- John Terry- he's one of the best defenders in the world without question, im sure he'll also maintain captaincy.
CB- Rio Ferdinand- as long as he's injury free, he's also one of the best in the world
LB- Ashley Cole- he's having the best season of life with chelsea
RM- Shaun Wright Phillips/ Aaron Lennon- both have the pace necessary to tear apart a defense and set up goals
CM- Garreth Barry- only because steven gerrard has been out of form this season
CM- Frank Lampard- having another successful season with chelsea
LM- Ashley Young- he's gone on to prove that he's one of the best wingers in the world
FW- Wayne Rooney- At the moment he's one of the best players in the world, having a hell of a season with man u, 20 goals so far.
FW- Jermaine Defoe- a proven goalscorer, having a good season with tottenham with 15 goals so far
