On Bedrest and bored?

My good friend went into preterm labor which the doctor got to stop but now she's been placed on bedrest and is bored to pieces.

She lives several hours away so I can't go visit. Any good ideas of what I can send to her to cheer her up and help pass the time?

Cards at random in the mail can be nice, and a Fruit Bouquet (by edible arrangements or the like) can be great. Perhaps make a time each day to instant chat with her...to give her something to look forward to. Also, consider sending her a balloon bouquet or flowers. She will look at them more than ever! Plus puzzle books or a good novel can be nice. Perhaps a little craft kit from the store also.

Just let her know she is not "isolated" from her friends!

I could never imagine having to go on bed rest. Espically if I literally had to stay in the bed and couldnt go around the house. All I could say is maybe if you do not have all the things you need for the baby is you could maybe get a little shopping done? At like babies r us or your favorite baby store. Online I am speaking. That could be fun and pass time. Catch up on your favorite tv show, books, etc. I'm sure you will not have time once the baby comes. Just keep reminding yourself that as boring as it will be, theres a good reason your on bed rest. And it is the best for your baby. Good luck!

Does she have internet access? I can keep myself busy for hours just surfing on various websites (but I don't have time to do that! But if I could, I would! lol).

What about getting together some movies she'd like to watch? Pregnancy movies are good too - I loved watching anything to do with pregnancy while I was pregnant (i.e. Knocked Up, Juno, Father of the Bride II, etc). Books are good too if she likes to read!

She could also take up a hobby, like knitting? She could knit a baby blanket.

Is there anything she will need to do after the baby is born, that would be easier on her if she does it now? For example, my daughter was due November 18, 2008 so I wrote out all of my christmas cards before she was born!

When I was on bed rest for 5 months my friends would send me care packages filled with magazines and like crossword puzzles and stuff. My friends would also bring by books and food and stuff (since I couldn't cook at the time!) It would be hard to send her food but maybe some DVDs or something? my husband got me the entire series of Friends to watch, you could maybe get her a series of shows or something? that kills a lot of time!

I like the idea of video games, but I have always enjoyed them. Try a Netflix account, she can do instant streaming to her computer, and we always get our dvds very quickly. We also have a PS3 that we can access movies instantly. I never thought I would suggest something like that, but in several situations it has been a huge lifesaver for us.
