Is it ok to be the singer in a band and not play an instrument?
like if you were the singer and don't play a instrument, you better be damn good
cause if you sing mediocre, you don't really deserve to be the front man right?

Of course it's okay to be a vocalist and not play an instrument, though most of them do play piano or guitar offstage anyway, usually for writing purposes.
That's my thing, if you're going to be just a vocalist, you better deserve that spot, though not necessarily by being an excellent singer (technically). I have a friend in a death/thrash band who used to sing and play drums. Because of health problems, he was forced to choose only one, so now he's just the frontman. Because of the nature of the music, the vocals aren't exactly "excellent" in the traditional sense, considering it's more about aggression rather than melody, at least in the vocal department, but he does have a unique voice for extreme metal, it fits well, and he's a great frontman in the sense of charisma, keeping the crowd going, etc. But for more typical death metal bands, like Six Feet Under or Cannibal Corpse, I always thought "what's the point? any a$$hole can do this!". My friend however has a real identity and is more responsible than anyone for defining that particular band's sound and style, so he does deserve his role.

Yeah, if you're a mediocre singer, you might benefit from playing an instrument too. Even still, you can practice and find ways to improve your singing. If you're still around 13-18 male your voice may crack and you don't sing so well - voice gets better into the 20s anyway.
You can also do breathing excercises to work on singing. Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 4 seconds, then slowly breathe out for 8 seconds and repeat the process a few times each time you go to practice singing.
As for playing an instrument, it's not impossible to do. Piano is quite easy once you get into it as basic skills simply require learning the notes (A,B,C,D,E,F,G, sharps and flats, etc) and practicing so you can play tunes you like. Guitar is similar principle except you need to learn the fingering positions and practice until you can put your fingers on the right strings by instinct.
good luck with it anyway

Hey, aren't your vocal cords an instrument?
Plus you are just apart of the band as everyone else, maybe even more so. Sometimes playing an instrument while singing can throw the lead singer off, too. Just do what YOU want :)

Yeah a lotta singers don't play instruments! There's even a song about it;
"I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)" by The Moody Blues! just a singer, nothing more!

Molly is the singer with the band, and life goes on... rah! You have to be like.. Robert Plant. Or Axl Rose. Or have a lovable Johnny Rotten attitude.

Rob Halford, Layne Staley, Chuck Billy, Joey Belladonna, John Bush, (old) Cristina Scabbia... yep, you better be damn good at what you do if you're just going to be the singer

Sure. In my opinion, I like a frontman that can handle vocal duties and an instrument at the same time.. much more difficult.
