Multilevel list on Word 2007?

Every time I go to create a multilevel list in Microsoft Word 2007, I hit the tab key to indent the second line. However, it indents the sentence on the second line, not the bullet. Even if I select multilevel list on the paragraph bar, it goes back to bulleted list if I try to indent the second line. Any ideas how to fix this? It's so annoying.

In Word 2007, click on Office Button | Word Options | Proofing | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type tab | check the "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces" box | OK.
