How do you prove you did NOT ever live at a specific address on your experian credit report?

A collection account recently popped on on my credit report, an account I had NO knowledge of. Luckily experian gives address identifier information and the account is associated with an address I have never lived at or ever used.

I believe the address belongs to someone with the same or similar name. My name is very common.

I tried to dispute the address with experian but they are saying I can't because the information was supplied to them by a creditor.

The collection agency does not believe that is not my address.

Any idea how I could prove it? I have lived at my current address since 2005 and this collection was for 2006. Odd how it is just now showing up isn't it?

Anyway my Drivers License has my current address on it but unfortunately was renewed in 2006 so it says issued in 2006.

How could I prove where I lived in 2005 maybe even prior to that.?

Update:

I could try to get a landlord statement but Im not sure they would understand what I am asking for. They are kinda special that way. :-)

Unfortunately debt collection agencies are buy up debts from large companies and then do some basic 'detective' work before pursuing the debts. This detective work usually just involves finding someone locally with the same name.

If Experian are not being helpful then you will probably need to contact the creditor and request that they send you a copy of the Consumer Credit Agreement, there is a template letter on the site link below. They are obliged to reply to this request and the credit agreement should give you a better idea of what was purchased, when and hopefully by whom. You can also then go back to the creditor or debt collection agency and dispute the fact this is being linked to you.

It's important that you get this removed as well as any link to the incorrect address (changing addresses too frequently has a negative effect on your credit score).

    Regards,

    TH.

Are you disputing the address or the actual debt??

If the debt isn't yours, I'd contact the creditor and tell them they have the wrong person,, Shouldn't be too hard to prove if the creditor has the SSN and other info of the person they are looking for,,

Don't worry about the reported address so much. Worry about the fact that an account that isn't yours is on your report. THAT'S what you need to dispute.

    Hey,

You need to make sure your account numbers are accurate with your location, household bills for the last ten years etc will prove were you lived, also places were you have had face to face communication with some-one could prove useful...

Good Luck, sorry I couldn't be more helpful :-(
