Jewish cooks - How do you make your cholent?

Anything special you use? Beef, lamb, Chicken?

I make a French "Bourguignon" style w/ wine as my liquid base, a Cajun one w/red beans and rice (beef instead of pork of course) and I'm thinking of toying with a lamb and lentil one.

Everyone has a different cholent and I always like picking up new ideas and tricks (for any recipe actually).

I realized the cooking and recipe section is kinda dead so I'm asking where I know Jews are.

My husband sticks (okay we don't use measuring cups so bear with me on this), he puts about 3 toiveling cup fulls in the crock pot... maybe thats about 8 cups of water total?

Then he puts in the Roast and the potatoes.

After a few hours (he starts this at about 6am)... he adds a kishke (vegetarian style cut into slices with plastic still around it)...

He adds barley, maybe some cut up romanian sausages.... add a little more water if he needs it.... a bottle of ketchup... and a dab of honey.

    the end.

    :)

I use kosher beef stew meat, kidney beans, black beans, and barley, along with carrots and various spices and LOTS of paprika. That's the trick to good cholent - double the paprika in any recipe you find.

What is cholent? I've never heard of that in my life. Is it an Ashkenazi thing?

EDIT: Oh, nevermind. Just looked it up. I know it as hamin, not cholent. Sorry, I don't have a special recipe for that.

Lamb and lentils sounds really good. Gosh, I love lentils.

EDIT 2: This Moroccan recipe sounds really good:

Or perhaps this Indian-style hamin: http://judaism.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi...

I actually use prime pork ribs in mine but I don't tell my dinner guests of course, They'd crucify me!
