Dummies for babies in Australia?

Does anyone in australia know what brand of dummies is good for babies around 5 / 6 months old that are NOT small enough that they can put the entire thing in their mouths??

I bought a couple of NUK brand 6 month old dummies the other day and my 5 m/o can fit the entire dummy in her mouth that is not good it is dangerous! So does anyone know a brand that the plastic part of the dummy (not the teat) is large enough that babies can't fit the entire thing in their mouths? Preferable the NUK style teats though as she shuns all the other types.

my son uses the tommee tippee brand of dummies. In this link, its the 3rd one down (the 'super soft' ones). They are the cherry shaped teat.

My other son used to take the 'funky face' dummies, the 5th one down. They are the orthodontic style teat.

Neither one could fit the whole dummy in their mouths.

both are readily available at target, kmart, big w, coles and woolies.

I would recommend getting a style of dummy where the plastic bit is larger, the nuk ones are usually smaller. Tommee Tippee makes heaps of styles as you can see on that link, and they are usually well priced.

Happy Baby dummies have the cherry teats (sorry I don't use dummies on my bubs now, so am not sure what style of teat NUK have) and were offered to my babies when we stayed in hospital and they have the big round plastic bit that shouldn't be able to fit in your her mouth.

  • most nuks are on recall iv always heard bad things about them i personaly love the tommee tippee ones as they are colourful and safer than others ov come across our son loves the bulbs that you can get in a 3 pack its also dipped around the nose for better breathing but alot of mums i know recomend happy baby cheap but kids love them

I can't help much but I found these articles.about NUK dummies. My sisters both use AVENT dummies, perhaps you could try those.

So if I were you I would not use NUK brand.

I hope this helps you somehow.

  • I used these, they're awesome - http://www.natureschild.com.au/products/natursutte... also come in the round shape - http://www.natureschild.com.au/products/natursutte... My son doesn't take a dummy anymore, he wouldn't take one after 4.5months but these are now his favourite teether, couldn't recommend them enough & I have a very big baby who's never been able to fit the whole thing in his mouth :)
