If you are in the U.S. here is a site that should have the snow information you need:
The National Weather Service (www.weather.gov)
If you type in your zip code and then on the forecast page that pops up look at the text forecast they report snowfall totals for the next day or two. If they forecast snow for several days out they will likely not report snowfall totals. Also on that page if you scroll down to the forecast discussion (bottom right) that has their weather discussion that will also talk about when the snow should fall, what is storm system is causing the snow, and some other things.

If you are a meteorologist, you can't help looking at the sky as you go to work. I am not a meteorologist but I have sailed for half a century and now, I fly a light aircraft. The weather is important to me and meteorology has been my life's hobby. If you see me jogging in the woods, as I do every day, you'll notice that I run with my nose up: the sky is the most beautiful show on earth! ... but that's me. Meteorology was the first true international cooperation that even survived during times of war. It was not before the invention of the telegraph that a synoptic map of a large area could be drawn. Later on, when wireless radio came on board ships, weather observations could even be gathered from remote places like in the middle of the Atlantic. That's how meteorology became a science. Today, it is the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) that is responsible to gather data and redistribute it to all member countries. It means that everyone is seen the same thing: Where a low pressure is, where a cold front is, etc. The question then is: How will it evolve in the future? We use then models based on previous experiences. But the weather never repeats itself exactly the same way. Say, there is a high pressure. Easy forecast: sunny and dry. That's for your country. But the Met Officer at the local airfield knowns that, in those conditions, early morning fog will form in the valley, nearby a big lake and visibility will be poor. That's where local knowledge comes handy. But how detailed do you expect your national forecast to be? I can assure you that meteorology is as good as it can and the people doing the job are passionate with what they do. Just as passionate as you are with your occupation, whatever it is.

Go to http://www.accuweather.com/
Type in your zip code and then go to the more detailed part of the forecast. The website does tell you how much it is going to snow.
