Enlist in the Navy, try to fly or work on planes.?

I went to the Navy recruiter today and talked to him today and got some information. I've always wanted to fly but i dont have the grades to join the air force and its academy. The recruiter was not clear on what i would have to do to fly with the Navy. I know about the ASVAB test, but idk if a job offer to be a pilot is included. He told me you should "get to know the plane" before u can get to fly. he meant be a mechanic for the Navy and work on planes. But what he told me was that, take ASVAB and then i bootcamp in chicago for 8 weeks (what type of training does that consist of exactly) and then you get to choose ur "career" in what field u are "allowed" to enter and then you get statione wherever ur field is...Correct? he said i can go to college in that time as well. do i get shipped out to iraq if i an working on planes? im not scared to i just would like some answers on how it works.

Could someone enlighten me on if joining/enlisting is smart or if going to college and THEN joinging, or going to college to become an officer. I would just like to know how it all works. and whats best for me.

By the way, im still in High school and im 18

You have to be a Commissioned Officer to fly in the Navy

The Navy's academic requirements for pilots are as selective as the AF's

You can't commission unless you have a college degree, you'd have to get into NROTC and complete that (which you don't have the grades to do)

Getting to know the plane isn't only working on the plane. You can look for a job that requires you ride on the plane as well. You could look into working as a radar operator in both the AF and the Navy and this would give you greater exposure to that community. And while you are at it, you can get in some college and see if you can build up enough hours to request officer training. This is very hard to do as you can't take very many classes at a time while on active duty. But it is a start. Take the long view at becoming a pilot. You do get to choose your career and you will be trained in that job and then assigned wherever your branch of service needs you. If that means you go to a unit that is going to Iraq then that is where you will go.

If you are set on flying then you should definitely talk to an ROTC recruiter and see what your chances are of getting an AFROTC or NROTC scholarship and becoming a pilot. Good luck!
