What is the treatment or a open wound on a dog?

It isn't a serious or deep wound. Earlier in the week my dogs were fighting and my puppy got scratched behind his ear, well he kept on itching it and now its about the size of a dime. He just scratched the scab off today so its open. I put some hydrogen peroxide and antibacterial ointment. The I wrapped it with gauze loosely around his neck. No idea if what I did helped need some advise.

If it doesnt start healing or your dog keeps scratching it...you might need a vet...

Cones work well to prevent scratching

Try cleaning the wound gently then apply Polysporin and wrap the wound or the dog will lick off the ointment. If it gets worse then you will have to go to the vet.

You are probably going to need a cone or E collar to prevent him from scratching it because as it heals it will become itchy. Peroxide is good for cleaning a fresh wound but damages cells if they are beginning to heal.

I think what you did was good, just put an E-collar on him so he can't keep scratching at it and you can give it time to heal.
