Opening Zip files with which program?

I use a shared computer, Some bright spark decided to alter all the default settings. Most are now reset but on the "open file with default program" for opening zip files the default setting is Internet Explorer.

Can anyone tell me how I can remove this off the list and which program I should list to open a zip file.

Thanks in advance.

To open a zip file you can use Winzip, Winrar or 7zip (free). There are other options.

Download 7zip from: http://www.7-zip.org/ You need to be sure that the program you want to use is already installed on your PC/Laptop

Locate a file with the type you want to change, and follow the steps given in this video tutorial (it works for all Windows)

    Step 1:

Download a compression tool such as WinZIP, Izarc, 7-zip, WinRAR. Install it on your PC.

    Step 2:

The installation -should- automatically associate itself with all compressed archives. If it doesn't, then right click on a file with a ZIP extension, select Open with... In the popup that appears, scroll down until you find the program you just installed, click on it, then make sure the check box under the list is checked, then click on OK.

Here is a good link where you can download winrar for here: http://bit.ly/1BooiXa

You can use winrar to decompress zip files and a bunch of other formats. Other good programs are 7zip and winzip but in my opinion winrar is the best one. Fuctionalities are pretty similar for all programs: basically you can decompress a file simply by right-clicking it and by choosing the destination folder.

Winrar is available for free under a trial licence. The good thing is the trial period never ends so you can use it for free with no limitations.

Winrar opens all formats like .zip, .rar, .7z, .iso, .tar, .jar etc. That's why I recommend it.

To unzip compressed files or folders you have to use WinRar.

Should you need to download a recent version of Winrar get it here: http://j.mp/1p3PnWn

as above, i recommend either winrar or 7-zip. 7-zip is free i think and it works really nicely so i would suggest getting that one. trust me i had ALOT of working in .zip folders to do whilst trying to... obtain a copy of VOCALOID2.

Well you can do it by default, or get Winrar or similar.
